up and Highest rand value sold 2008 runner<br />

up.<br />

Nicola has only been an Estate agent for one<br />

year and already passed the estate agent affairs<br />

board exam as well as her FETC: Real Estate<br />

NQF4 qualification. Seeff Pr<strong>op</strong>erties Tzaneen<br />

strives to give honest and professional service<br />

at all times.<br />

At Seeff they believe that, in these tough<br />

times, they have to double their efforts in<br />

giving service beyond expectation.<br />

Community Awards Programme<br />

officially <strong>op</strong>en for entries<br />

The 2009 Jet Community Awards Programme<br />

is officially <strong>op</strong>en for entries from South Africa,<br />

Botswana, Namibia, Lesotho and Swaziland<br />

with more than R1 million in prize money up<br />

for grabs by local community heroes.<br />

For the past six years, the Jet Community<br />

Awards has been celebrating the extraordinary<br />

achievements of ordinary citizens within impoverished<br />

communities from across Southern<br />

Africa. Representing retail brand Jet’s flagship<br />

community upliftment programme, the annual<br />

Jet Community Awards aim to reward those<br />

individuals or organisations who give selflessly<br />

of their time, energy and talents to build<br />

and empower vulnerable individuals in their<br />

local communities.<br />

Since the Awards launched in 2003, Jet has<br />

received thousands of entries, and awarded<br />

almost R4 million in prize money to 32 overall<br />

winners. Last year the R1 million prize money<br />

was shared amongst 36 regional winners and<br />

seven national winners. The 2008 winners<br />

include a crèche from Klerksdorp; a community<br />

care organisation from Namibia; a<br />

children’s disability centre from Soweto; a<br />

community trading store and tuck sh<strong>op</strong> in<br />

Francistown, Botswana; a tourism and cultural<br />

centre in Bergville, Kwazulu Natal; a community<br />

IT and office support centre in Ha-Matlatla,<br />

Limp<strong>op</strong>o Province; and a grass roots<br />

environmental waste management programme<br />

in Bonteheuwel, Western Cape.<br />

Says Jet Club Manager, Tessa Lloyd, “Community<br />

is all about family, and as a family<br />

brand Jet remains committed to supporting<br />

community carers in their selfless service to<br />

impoverished communities and families<br />

across Southern Africa. In order to ensure that<br />

our winners have a sustained positive impact<br />

within their communities our Awards’ Veri-<br />

fication Team visits and assesses all short listed<br />

projects. Jet’s investment in the programme<br />

has continually increased to the point where<br />

over R1 million in prize money is channelled<br />

to benefit the various community initiatives<br />

that most need it.”<br />

The 2009 Awards will be targeting community<br />

projects and organisations in the categories<br />

of “Education”, honouring organisations<br />

and individuals focusing on school-level<br />

programmes of excellence in literacy, maths,<br />

science and technology; “We Care”, recognising<br />

inspirational community initiatives in<br />

healthcare; Early Childhood Devel<strong>op</strong>ment<br />

(ECD), and Orphaned and Vulnerable Children<br />

(OVC) as well as initiatives with pe<strong>op</strong>le<br />

with disabilities, specifically in terms of care,<br />

support and empowerment; “Vukuzenzele”<br />

which recognise entrepreneurs among black<br />

women, youths and in small enterprises; and<br />

“Environmental Waste Management”, recognising<br />

those committed to reducing or eliminating<br />

waste production.<br />

“The quality of the entries we have received<br />

over the last several years is indicative of the<br />

tremendous goodwill that exists at a community<br />

level in terms of contributing towards<br />

real social transformation in South Africa and<br />

the broader southern Africa community.<br />

While our winners all come from different<br />

regions and backgrounds, they share a common<br />

vision – the transformation of their community<br />

through working for others. With little<br />

or no external support, and seldom any specialist<br />

education, these extraordinary individuals<br />

overcome significant challenges to<br />

make a difference in the lives of their fellow<br />

citizens,” concludes Jet Club Manager, Tessa<br />

Lloyd.<br />
