Branding at its Best Like the moves on a checkered board, branding is very much akin to a game of chess. The ancient sport for intellectual sparring is focused on strategy and circumstance, pitting the wits of the players against one another in a bid to outlast, outplay and oust the other to claim victory. Transposing to the branding arena, the same can be said: companies invest thousands to create that one winning brand strategy, using market research and creativity to stand out from the clutter of the modern marketplace and secure consumer attention. Based on this timeless concept, the Singapore Prestige Brand Award (SPBA) 2012 has identified, recognised and honoured 49 deserving brands for their excellence in branding. Through a transparent and stringent judging process, these brands are the crème de la crème of local branding initiatives, their distinct identities serving as prominent beacons in the business landscape. The entire award journey taking the better part of almost six months, these 49 brands have gone through the gauntlet: from proposal submissions to the two rounds of judging and finally being honoured at the Award Presentation Ceremony. SPBA 2012 is co-organised annually by the Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (ASME) and Lianhe Zaobao, and this year, the Award is also fortunate to have CIMB Bank onboard as the Main Sponsor. Speaking during the Official Launch of the SPBA 2012 on 4 July 2012, Mr Mak Lye Mun, Chief Executive Officer of CIMB Bank Singapore said that, “CIMB sp E C i a l the 11 th Singapore prestige Brand award has honoured 49 homegrown brands for their efforts in this critical business element Bank is proud to be given the opportunity by Lianhe Zaobao and ASME to be the main sponsor for Singapore Prestige Brand Award. In an economy where we are subject to ever changing market dynamics and heightened competition, the role of brands has never been greater. So there is nothing more invigorating than to be able to help our local companies grow their brands so that they can better compete in the global marketplace.” In addition to the main sponsor, the Award is also supported by International Enterprise Singapore (IE Singapore), the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) as well as SPRING Singapore.
