The introduction of the example of the Gothic portal of the Minden Dom is also connected with the Westfalen workshop (Fig. 10–11). The “Cologne master” style as defined by Sten Karling can be found, with a certain reservation, in the Riga Dom complex mainly in the capitals of the northern portal and the apsids, but not in the building details of the whole Dom. Rheineland examples have reached Riga also indirectly which can be seen in the decors of the capitals of the northern portal and apsids of the Riga Dom. All of them were made at the Kalkarius workshop of St Mary’s church in Visby, Gotland. The figural décors of the consoles in the Riga Dom Chapter Hall were also made in a Gotland workshop. Considering the influence of the plastic details of the Magdeburg Dom Gothic capitals in the choir passage Gothic, the north-eastern console décor of the Chapter Hall can be interpreted as a depiction of “Mary’s Annunciation”. The irradiation of the Riga Dom decorative plastic details to the Haapsalu Dom and Valjala church stone elements allows to confirm Karling’s and Grosmane’s thesis about a sculptor’s workshop that functioned in Livonia around the mid- and second third of the13th century. The comparison with the Haapsalu and Valjala plastic decors revealed a formal transformation of the examples, decrease of the stylist quality, the choice of motifs resulting in reduced variety. In difference from 13th century plastic building details, capital décors of the cluster columns basilican elevation of the Riga Dom nave do not strike by a peculiar treatment or an observable variety of motifs. The few ornaments of botanically identifiable leaves on the frieze-type capitals belong to the High Gothic style of plastic building décors (Fig. 12–13).
