It is with pleasure, as Chair of the Nominating Committee, to report to you the nominees
for the slate of officers and Board of Trustees. I would like to thank the members of the
committee for their time and commitment. Members of the committee were Nina Harris,
Jackie Karr, Jimmy Marks, Betsy Chernau, Amy Smith and Risa Klein Herzog.
Nominated Officers for 2013 - 2014: President, Ray Berk; Vice President, Ralph Levy; Treasurer,
Martin Sir; Secretary, Joyce Freidman.
Nominated to serve a four-year term as members of the Board of Trustees: Judy Book, Jamie Hirsch
Brook, Michael Heilbronn, Chris McPherson, Jessica Viner and Cathy Werthan.
Judy Book:
Judy moved to Nashville over 4 years ago, one year in advance of her family, and quickly found a
Nashville family at the Temple. Judy is a Nurse Practitioner. She is married to Jared who serves in a
leadership position at the Gordon JCC. Judy is active in the Jewish community and is involved with the
Social Action Committee. They have two children, a son who is married and lives in Virginia, a grandson,
and a daughter who is graduating from Wake Forest University.
Nominations
Jamie Hirsch Brook:
Jamie is married to Jeremy Brook and has a one-year-old daughter, Anna. Jamie grew up in Nashville
and has had all of her life cycle events at The Temple. Jamie is an Occupational Therapist working at the
pediatric rehabilitation clinic at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt.
Michael Heilbronn:
Michael and his wife Donna have two children, Jackson and Alex. Alex is a senior and attends Hillsboro
High School and Jackson is a junior at University of Tennessee. Michael is Executive Vice President, COO
of the YMCA of Middle Tennessee. Michael attended The Temple’s Conversion Conversations in 2010-
2011 and converted at The Temple on September 9, 2011.
Chris McPherson:
Chris moved to Nashville 13 years ago and joined The Temple community shortly thereafter. Chris and
her husband John, an interventional cardiologist and medical residency director at Vanderbilt Medical
Center, have two high-school-age children, Matt and Meghan, who had their Bar and Bat Mitzvahs at
The Temple. Chris taught one year of Religious School at The Temple, has been on The Temple Board
of Trustees for two years, and spends the rest of her time hanging out with her family, swimming,
coaching swim teams, and volunteering for a number of other organizations within the Nashville
community.
Jessica Viner:
Jessica is a lifelong Temple member and recently co-chaired the Cantor Search Committee. She
previously served on the Board from 2006-2010 and co-chaired the membership committee.
Jessica spoke at Congregants’ Hour in 2009 and has volunteered for the Temple Arts Festival and
the Religious School. She and her husband, Dan, were married at Temple and have three children
in the Religious School.
Cathy Werthan:
Cathy is married to Tony Werthan and has two adult children, Justin (married to Hilary) & Lesley.
Cathy has been a member of the Temple family for many years and converted at The Temple
in September 2011. She is founder and President of CPA Consulting Group, PLLC, a CPA firm
located in Belle Meade and is a co-founder of Jones Werthan and Pezzano, LLC, an investment
management & consulting company.
