Advertising in national glossy publications targeting Spanish-speaking U.S. <strong>Hispanic</strong>s <strong>to</strong>taled $1 . million through <strong>the</strong> eight<br />

months of 2011, according <strong>to</strong> <strong>Media</strong> Economics Group’s <strong>Hispanic</strong>MagazineMoni<strong>to</strong>r.<br />

But <strong>the</strong> majority of those dollars went <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>to</strong>p 15 titles, in particular People en Español ($38.2 million) and Latina magazine<br />

($1 . million).<br />

As advertisers recover from <strong>the</strong> economic fallout, dollars <strong>to</strong> Latino-focused magazines are on <strong>the</strong> rebound. A new report from<br />

Kantar <strong>Media</strong> reveals that Spanish-language magazines saw a 29 percent increase in advertising dollars during <strong>the</strong> first six<br />

months of 011.<br />

Although some advertiser categories have slashed <strong>the</strong>ir magazine budgets, o<strong>the</strong>rs have doubled <strong>the</strong>ir dollars in <strong>the</strong> past year.<br />

The <strong>to</strong>p three advertiser categories in <strong>the</strong> Spanish-language magazines tracked by <strong>Hispanic</strong>MagazineMoni<strong>to</strong>r have increased<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir investment by double-digit percentages - cosmetics ( . percent), food products ( . percent) and haircare ( .<br />

percent).<br />

Now more than ever <strong>Hispanic</strong> magazine advertisers are creatively targeting readers through methods above and beyond<br />

a simple ad in <strong>the</strong> book. One way is through cus<strong>to</strong>m publishing o<strong>the</strong>rs are turning <strong>to</strong> adver<strong>to</strong>rials - typically multi-page ads<br />

designed <strong>to</strong> fit in with a magazine’s content, but cover a particular brand or product.<br />
