f- .* ¦ : most people to pay more attention
to "fuss and feathers," as they put it, than
to the practical branches of poultry culture,
the production of eggs and meat.
In those days there were but few large
poultry farms, and thegovernment.whether
state or national, paid no attention to
poultry and made no attempt to assist in
solving the poultry-keepers' problems.
Things are considerably different now.
The poultry-keeper who does not have
standard-bred fowls is justly regarded as
behind the times, and the government,
both national and state, gives considerable
attention to poultry-keeping problems and
unreservedly recommends strong, vigorous,
standard-bred fowls in place of mongrels.
The old idea that exhibition fowls were
weak and unfit for practical purposes finds
but few adherents these days. It has been
proved beyond all
doubt that there is
