Aims and objectives
Emerging evidence indicates that prostatic inflammation may contribute to prostate growth. During this
symposium, the relation between inflammation and BPH will be discussed.
Some authors found a strong correlation between the amount of inflammatory infiltrate, IPSS, prostate
volume and BPH progression. If inflammation is correlated with BPH, the ability of detecting inflammation
without analysing prostate tissue specimens can be discussed. Finally, it is of interest to determine if
inflammation could be considered as a therapeutic target for BPH, and with which therapeutic approaches.
