Marc Gustafson<br />
Senior Director - Scouting Operations<br />
Marc Gustafson begins his 20th season with the organization. He was<br />
named Senior Director of Scouting Operations on September 15th, 2011. Marc<br />
was the Senior Director of Player Development from 2010 – 2011. He served as<br />
the Director of Player Development from 2006 – 2009 and Assistant Director of<br />
Player Development from 1997 – 2005. Prior to joining the front office, he was a<br />
<strong>Rockies</strong> organizational trainer for five years.<br />
Gus, 42, supervises and administers all amateur scouting personnel<br />
throughout the season, manages the day-to-day operations of the Scouting<br />
Department, organizes the First-Year Player Draft in June, serves as the area<br />
scout for <strong>Colorado</strong> and Wyoming and evaluates other talent as assigned.<br />
Marc and his wife, Amy, and their two sons, Jack (9) and Charlie (6), reside in Westminster. Born<br />
September 14, 1969, Gus lettered in football, baseball and basketball at Eaton (CO) High School. His<br />
great grandparents immigrated to Eaton and his family has lived there for four generations. He played<br />
baseball at Doane College in Crete, NE and graduated from <strong>Colorado</strong> State University, earning a<br />
Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise and Sport Science.<br />
Rolando Fernandez<br />
Senior Director - International Scouting<br />
Rolando Fernandez begins his 20th season with the <strong>Rockies</strong> organization<br />
and serves as the Senior Director of International Scouting. Rolando oversees all<br />
aspects of International Scouting including player signings, scouting, player development<br />
and day-to-day operations.<br />
Some of the players he has signed include <strong>Rockies</strong>’ players Jhoulys Chacin,<br />
Juan Nicasio, Esmil Rogers, Jonathan Herrera, Franklin Morales, Wilin Rosario<br />
and Hector Gomez. Other Major League players include Ubaldo Jimenez, Alberto<br />
Arias, Everth Cabrera, Pedro Strop and Aneury Rodriguez. According to a<br />
Baseball America study in 2010, the <strong>Rockies</strong>’ Minor League system ranked second in all of baseball<br />
behind the Yankees in overall International talent. In 2005, Rolando was honored as the <strong>Rockies</strong>’ Herb<br />
Hippauf Scouting Award recipient. Prior to his current role, Rolando spent four seasons as the roving Latin<br />
American Coordinator and in 1999, was named the <strong>Rockies</strong>’ Player Development “Man of the Year.”<br />
Fernandez coached the <strong>Rockies</strong>’ Arizona Rookie League club from 1994-97 and Visalia for half the ‘93<br />
season. Before joining the <strong>Rockies</strong>, the former outfielder played three years in the Chicago Cubs organization.<br />
He was drafted by the Cubs in the 1990 June draft.<br />
A 1990 graduate of Northwestern State University of Louisiana, Rolando has a Bachelor’s Degree in<br />
Advertising. ‘Ro’ is married to Kim Velazquez and has two daughters, Sofia Camille and Adriana.<br />
Tom Probst<br />
Senior Director - Medical Operations & Special Projects<br />
Tom Probst begins his first season as the club’s Senior Director – Medical<br />
Operations and Special Projects, after six seasons as the club's Director of<br />
Medical Operations.<br />
"T.P.’s” job responsibilities include overseeing all medical personnel at both<br />
the major and minor league levels as well as the workers <strong>com</strong>pensation program<br />
organization wide. He is also involved with the Scottsdale Spring Training, Grand<br />
Junction and Dominican Republic (Boca Chica) facilities projects in an overview<br />
of the <strong>Rockies</strong> interest in all three locations.<br />
An original hire when the team began minor league play in 1992, Probst<br />
worked in the training room for each of <strong>Colorado</strong>’s first 12 seasons. He served as assistant athletic trainer<br />
from 1993-98 before being named the second head trainer in franchise history on October 27, 1998.<br />
In 2003, he and Keith Dugger were named Major League Training Staff of the Year by their peers.<br />
Probst was also selected to represent the National League as one of its trainers at the 2003 All-Star<br />
Game in Chicago. Following the 2004 season, he toured Japan with the Major League Baseball All-Stars.<br />
T.P. served as trainer for the franchise’s first group of draftees during a June, 1992, mini-camp. Later that<br />
year, he was the trainer of the first team in organizational history, Bend in the Northwest League. The ‘92 campaign<br />
marked a return to pro baseball for Probst, who also spent five years in the Montreal organization.<br />
Tom previously served on the Executive Board of the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society<br />
(PBATS). He was the NL representative for PBATS in 2002 and 2003 and the treasurer in 2004. In<br />
December of 2004, he was asked to speak in Nagoya, Japan for JPBATS. Probst has been a member of<br />
the <strong>MLB</strong> Workers Compensation Quality Council since 2005 and most recently has assisted with development<br />
of the Electronic Medical Records system and Injury Surveillance System with <strong>MLB</strong> and participated<br />
n the EMR Advisory Committee.<br />
Probst has two degrees: one in Physical Education from Mankato State University (‘81) and a B.S.<br />
in Physical Therapy from Florida International University (‘88).<br />
He and his wife, Gina, reside in Littleton, CO with their three sons, Daniel, Nicholas and Christopher.<br />
