COACHING CAREER: Wright begins his 16th season in the <strong>Rockies</strong> organization, his fourth year in his current position...in<br />

2009 he returned to the Major League coaching staff for the first time since 2002, when he served as the club’s<br />

pitching coach (Wright he helped guide Jason Jennings to the National League Rookie of the Year Award that season)...Wright<br />

served as the organization’s roving pitching coordinator for six seasons from 2003-08...from 1999-2001,<br />

Wright served as <strong>Colorado</strong> Springs’ pitching coach...he began his career with the <strong>Rockies</strong> tutoring pitchers at Double-A<br />

New Haven from 1997-98...prior to that, he coached in the Phillies farm system from 1990-96, including part of the 1996<br />

campaign as the Major League pitching coach as a replacement for Johnny Podres who was ill…got his start in coaching<br />

with the Cubs organization in 1984.<br />

PLAYING CAREER: The right-handed pitcher was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 1980 Rule 5 draft<br />

despite missing the 1979 season with an arm injury…made his Major League debut with the Royals on April 22,<br />

1981…spent his final year as a player in the Cubs system and retired after the 1983 season due to arm injuries…threw<br />

two Minor League no-hitters (Auburn in 1974 and in 1975 with Spartanburg).<br />

PERSONAL: James Leon Wright...Jim and his wife, Pamela, and children, Jim, Coby, Megan, Ben and Emma,<br />

COACHING CAREER: Jerry Weinstein begins his sixth season with the <strong>Rockies</strong>, first as the Major League Catching<br />

Coach...prior to his current role, Weinstein was the manager of the <strong>Rockies</strong> High-A affiliate, Modesto…Weinstein has led<br />

the Nuts to a winning record in each of his five seasons…prior to joining the <strong>Rockies</strong>, Weinstein, who has over 40 years<br />

of coaching experience, was the pitching coach for the Cal Poly (San Luis Obispo) baseball team from 2001-05…prior to<br />

his coaching stint with the Mustangs, Weinstein was the Los Angeles Dodgers Director of Player Development in 2000 and<br />

2001 and also served as the Dodgers’ catching coordinator in 1999…he was a head coach at Sacramento City College<br />

for 23 seasons, posting a record of 831-208-12 while guiding the Panthers to 16 conference championships, two co-conference<br />

titles, a state title in 1988 and a national crown in 1998…he is a member of the California Community College<br />

Baseball Hall of Fame and the Sacramento City College Sports Hall of Fame…was named the National Community<br />

College Baseball Coach of the Year in 1988 and 1998…in addition to his success in Sacramento, Weinstein has also<br />

served as a coach for the United States Olympic teams in 1992 and 1996…he was also an assistant coach for the 1987<br />

U.S. Pan American Games team and led the 2005 U.S. club to a gold medal at the Maccabiah Games…his previous college<br />

coaching stints included one season (1984) as assistant coach at Miami (Fla) and two seasons (1966, 1968) as the<br />

freshman coach at UCLA…also managed several minor league teams for Milwaukee, Montreal and Chicago-<br />

NL…Weinstein earned his bachelor’s degree in history at UCLA in 1965 and earned a master’s degree in physical education<br />

at UCLA in 1969.<br />

PERSONAL: Jerry and his wife, Andrea, reside in San Luis Obispo and have two kids, Aaron and Amy.<br />
