in the Majors...in July, Jim was named to Phil Garner’s coaching staff for the All-Star Game (played at PNC Park) in<br />

Pittsburgh on July 11; he began coaching at first base, but also coached third base during contest before assisting on the<br />

bench.<br />

AS DODGERS MANAGER: Named the Dodgers field manager on Nov. 1, 2000, be<strong>com</strong>ing the 24th manager in franchise<br />

history and sixth in Los Angeles...served as interim manager from July 16-19, 2000 while former manager Davey<br />

Johnson was ill, and guided the club to a 3-1 record (wins were credited to Johnson per <strong>MLB</strong> rules)...during his time with<br />

the Dodgers, the team posted winning records in four of five seasons under Tracy...he led the 2004 club to a first-place<br />

finish in the National League West...he logged a .549 winning pct. in his first four seasons as a big league manager...in<br />

his first four years as leader of the Dodgers (2001-04), his team posted a 356-292 record and those teams played just 10<br />

games that did not have playoff implications...2005: After four consecutive winning seasons, suffered his first losing season<br />

as a manager as the Dodgers went 71-91 and finished 4th in the NL West...2004: <strong>Guide</strong>d the Dodgers to a 93-69<br />

record including their first National League Western Division championship since 1995...finished 3rd in Manager of the<br />

Year voting, garnering four first-place votes and finishing behind Atlanta’s Bobby Cox and St. Louis’ Tony LaRussa...on<br />

June 20, 2004 vs. the New York Yankees, Tracy earned his 300th career victory... 2003: Following the season, on Nov.<br />

24, 2004, Tracy signed a two-year contract to manage the Dodgers club through the 2006 season...he picked up his 200th<br />

career win as a manager on May 16, 2003 vs. Florida...he guided the team to an 85-77 record and a second-place finish<br />

in the NL West...2002: The Dodgers finished as one of three teams in the Majors to register 90 or more victories and not<br />

qualify for the postseason, joining the Boston Red Sox (93) and Seattle Mariners (93)...at the All-Star Game, Tracy and<br />

Frank Robinson of the Montreal Expos, served as coaches at the 73rd All-Star Game at Miller Park in Milwaukee after<br />

being asked by Arizona manager Bob Brenly...Tracy became the first Dodger manager since Hall of Famer Tommy<br />

Lasorda in 1993 to be named an All-Star coach...2001: Led the Dodgers to an 86-76 record in his first season at the<br />

helm...kept the club in the playoff race the entire season, despite having to use the disabled list 20 times with players<br />

missing more than 600 <strong>com</strong>bined games...the Dodgers had at least a share of first place for 39 days during the season<br />

and never trailed by more than 7.5 games, which came during the first half of the season...following the 2001 season, the<br />

Los Angeles front office exercised the options on Tracy’s contract for the 2003 and 2004 seasons.<br />

COACHING: Prior to his Major League managerial career Tracy served two full seasons as the Dodgers bench coach<br />

under manager Davey Johnson (1999-2000) in Los Angeles and four seasons (1995-98) as bench coach of the Montreal<br />

Expos under manager Felipe Alou ...he had been part of the Expos’ organization since 1993...posted a 501-486 record in<br />

seven seasons as a Minor League manager from 1987-91 and 1993-94 with three organizations: Chicago Cubs,<br />

Cincinnati Reds and Montreal...his teams finished first or second in four of his seven seasons in the minors...he was<br />

named Sporting News and Eastern League Manager of the Year in 1993 after guiding Montreal’s class Double-A affiliate<br />

in Harrisburg to a 94-44 record and league title...the Senators were also named Minor League Team of the Year by<br />

Baseball America...Tracy also earned the Expos’ John McHale Award for player development excellence...made his managerial<br />

debut in 1987 with the Cubs’ class Single-A Peoria...Tracy also spent the 1992 season as the Reds’ minor league<br />

field coordinator.<br />

PLAYING CAREER: Originally selected by the Cubs in the fourth round of the 1977 January First-Year Player Draft,<br />

Tracy made his professional playing debut with Pompano Beach in 1977...he won the Texas League batting title with a<br />

.355 average for Midland in 1979 prior to making his Major League debut with the Cubs in 1980 as an outfielder/first baseman...made<br />

his <strong>MLB</strong> debut as a pinch-hitter on July 21, 1980, then singled off San Francisco’s Ed Whitson for his first<br />

Major League hit the following day...Tracy also played two years in Japan (1983-84) before retiring as a player following<br />

a brief stint with Tucson in 1984.<br />

PERSONAL: James Edwin Tracy...Jim and his wife, Debra, have three sons; Brian (12/22/83), Chad (7/4/85) and<br />

Mark (1/1/88), and one grandson; Jackson (Brian’s son, 12/23/11)...is a 1974 graduate of Badin High School in Hamilton,<br />

Ohio, where he played football, basketball and baseball...is a member of that school’s sports Hall of Fame...attended<br />

Marietta (OH) College and batted .325 as a freshman in 1975 to help the squad reach the Ohio Conference and NCAA<br />

Division II Mideast Regional Championships and second-place finish in the NCAA Division II World Series...hit .411 and<br />

was an NCAA Division III All-American selection as a sophomore in 1976...is also a member of the Marietta College<br />

Sports Hall of Fame...other notable big leaguers to be inducted are Terry Mulholland and Kent Tekulve...received the<br />

school’s Distinguished Alumnus Award during the 2003 offseason...his father, Jim Sr., played Minor League Baseball for<br />

the Phillies and Giants from 1948-1951...his son, Brian, was selected by the Dodgers in the 21st round of the 2002 June<br />

draft, but chose to play baseball at UC Santa Barbara...he is currently working as an area scout (OH, IN, TN, KY) for the<br />

Pirates organization...his son, Chad, <strong>com</strong>pleted his baseball career at Pepperdine University and was selected by Texas<br />

in the third round of the 2006 June draft...he spent 2009 at Double-A Frisco of the Texas League, hitting .279 (149-for-<br />

535) with 32 doubles, 26 home runs and 107 RBI while playing first base, left field and designated hitter...this past offseason<br />

the <strong>Rockies</strong> acquired Chad in a trade with Texas for RHP Greg Reynolds...his youngest son, Mark, was selected<br />

by the <strong>Rockies</strong> as a first baseman in the 2010 draft out of Duquesne University (PA).<br />
