Will be making his first appearance at Major League Spring Training in <strong>2012</strong>...Bettis be<strong>com</strong>es the first player<br />

from the <strong>Rockies</strong> 2010 Draft class to make an appearance at Major League Spring Training...was named the<br />

California League Pitcher of the Year in 2011 after going 12-5 with a 3.34 ERA (169.2 ip, 63 er) with 184<br />

strikeouts to 45 walks...the right-hander led the Cal League in K, IP, WHIP (1.10), BAA (.225), fewest BR/9.0<br />

IP (10.34)...his 184 strikeouts were fifth-most in the Minor Leagues in 2011...following the 2011 season,<br />

was named by Baseball America as the ninth-best prospect in the California League and the 3rd-best<br />

prosect in the <strong>Rockies</strong> organization...was originally drafted in the 2007 Draft by the Houston Astros but did<br />

not sign.<br />

2011<br />

• Spent his entire second professional season with Double-A Modesto in the starting rotation, making 27 starts.<br />

• Led the California League in multiple categories, including strikeouts (184), innings pitched (169.2), WHIP (1.10), opponent<br />

batting average (.225) and fewest baserunners per 9.0 innings (10.34)...additionally, his 3.34 ERA was the second-best<br />

mark in the California League, his 9.76 K/9.0 IP was the fourth-best mark in the CL.<br />

• Bettis had the ninth-most innings pitched in the entire Minor Leagues and the fifth-most strikeouts in the Minors.<br />

• Named the <strong>Rockies</strong> organizational Pitcher of the Month in July when he went 4-1 with a 3.07 ERA (44.0 ip, 15 er), 43<br />

strikeouts, 12 walks and held opponents to a .205 (32-for-156) batting average in six starts.<br />

• Pitched much better in the second half of the season, going 8-1 with a 2.41 ERA (86.0 ip, 23 er) in 13 second half starts<br />

<strong>com</strong>pared to 4-4 with a 4.30 ERA (83.2 ip, 40 er) in 14 first half starts.<br />

• Finished the season with a six-game win-streak, spanning his last nine starts...over those nine starts, Bettis went 6-0<br />

with a 2.54 ERA (56.2 ip, 16 er) while striking out 64 and walking just 13.<br />

• Earned the California League Pitcher of the Week on two separate occasions, 6/27-7/3 and 8/15-22.<br />

• Was named a California League Mid- and Postseason All-Star and named by Baseball America as a High-A All-Star.<br />

• Following the season, was named by Baseball America as the ninth-best prospect in the California League.<br />

• The ace of the Nuts’ staff, Bettis earned the 2011 California League Pitcher of the Year honor following the season.<br />

• Bettis and teammate Edwar Cabrera were both named to the All-Minors Second-Team by Baseball America.<br />

• Named by <strong>MLB</strong>.<strong>com</strong> as the 66th overall prospect heading into the <strong>2012</strong> season.<br />

2010: Began his professional career with Short Season Tri-City where he made 10 appearances/9 starts for the Dust<br />

Devils...allowed two earned runs just once and did not allow more than one run in any other appearance...won four games<br />

in five starts from 7/11-8/3, allowing just one earned run in 27.1 innings (0.33 ERA) in those five starts...held opponents to<br />

a .227 average (44-for-194) and had a strikeout to walk ratio of 3.9...was named to the Northwest League All-Star Team<br />

after he <strong>com</strong>piled a 4-1 record and 1.12 ERA in 10 appearances/9 starts...promoted to Low-A Asheville in mid-August and<br />

made three starts for the Tourists, earning 2 wins and a 0.96 ERA, allowing just 2 earnd runs over 18.2 innings<br />

pitched...was rated as the ninth-best prospect in the <strong>Rockies</strong> system by Baseball America prior to the 2011 season.<br />

CoLLEgE: Went 7-4 with a 4.41 ERA (85.2 ip, 42 er) in 24 game/7 starts for the Texas Tech Red Raiders as a junior<br />

in 2010…had 102 strikeouts and just 33 walks…he finished fourth in the Big 12 Conference with his 102 strikeouts...his<br />

10.72 strikeouts per game was the fifth-best mark in the conference in 2010...though he made 7 starts, he still finished tied<br />

for fourth in the Big 12 with 10 saves in 2010…was named to the Big 12 All-Tournament Team in 2010 as well…spent three<br />

seasons with the Red Raiders, splitting time between the starting rotation and late inning relief.<br />

PERSoNAL: Signed by <strong>Rockies</strong> scout Dar Cox...was rated as the 33rd-best player in the 2010 Draft by Baseball<br />

America, as well as the 16th-best right-handed pitcher in the Draft by the same publication…Baseball America also rated<br />

Bettis the fifth-best prospect overall from the state of Texas…Bettis is a native of Lubbock, TX and was originally drafted<br />

in the eighth round of the 2007 First-Year Player Draft by the Houston Astros.<br />
