NOMINATING UMPIRES FOR FINALS SERIES
At the end of the Day Competition season the ERNA Umpiring Committee requires Club
Umpiring Convenors with teams in semi-finals, finals and grand finals to nominate
suitable badged umpires to do umpiring duties. During Night Competition, teams in
Finals series are responsible for providing their own suitably badged umpire.
A BADGED umpire is any umpire who has a National “C”, “B”, “A” or “AA” Badge. No
unbadged umpires (even those with the E/R Encouragement Award) can umpire Finals
Series (unless there are exceptional circumstances determined by the Umpiring
Committee).
All Umpires nominated must have umpired at least five times during the current
season/calendar year.
Nomination forms are due the week before the game. Day Competition forms are
available in soft copy on the ERNA website. Night Competition forms will be distributed
from the Canteen during Week 10 of competition.
When nominating umpires please keep the following in mind:
New National C’s are more likely to be allocated to games in time slots with Junior
grades.
More experienced National C’s and Umpires with National B Badges are mostly
required for Intermediate and Senior grades, especially A grade, Mixed, Under 21’s
and Cadet 1.
Each umpire will only be used twice each Competition Day or Night (and usually
only once if they are playing).
Badged umpires from other clubs may be used (see above point).
In Day Competition four umpires per time slot are allocated to Reserve Duties.
Thus, some umpires may be asked to do more than their club’s allocation.
In Night Competition at least two umpires per time slot are allocated to Reserve
Duties. Thus, some umpires may be asked to do more than their team’s allocation.
