CIC Population Pack
Longman Group UK Ltd
£27.50
Individual price £18. 50
These demonstration and utility
programs contain recent demographic
data and illustrate population growth
by means of line graphs and population
pyramids. They also aid enquiry
based learning by calculating statistics
for pupils' data typed in at the
keyboard.
DEMOG 1
Uses statistics for percentage growth,
birth rates and death rates to show
changes to an initial population over
fifty year periods. The program
contains data for ten countries and
allows pupils to type in data for other
populations.
DEMOG 2
Uses age and sex specific statistics to
generate population pyramids based on
five year cohorts. The program
contains data for six countries and
projections can be made at five year
intervals. The effects of altering the
age and sex, specific death rates and
the birth rates may also be explored to
simulate demographic change. Age
range: 14-18 years
food and energy supplies.
Students can explore the
quantitative effects of the birth and
death rates, the percentage of land used
for cultivation, the discovery of new oil
reserves and a change in people's diets.
Once they have set their chosen
required. Age range: 15-18 years.
CIC Farming Pack
Longman Group UK Ltd
Pack Price £37.50
Individual price £18.50
Farm Game
This is a simple decision making game
for younger pupils who choose the
crops to be planted on the imaginary
`Maypole Farm'. Pupils aim to make
profits but discover that farming is a
high risk business as the weather
changes from year to year.
By taking account of the weather
patterns, and past profits, pupils
reselected the crops to achieve better
profits over periods of four years or
more.
To illustrate regional variations in
weather patterns, Maypole Farm may
be located in three different regions of
Britain. This allows pupils to discover
that good crop combinations in one
region may not be suitable elesewhere
and thus learn one factor behind
contrasts in British agriculture.
Age range: 8-13 years
