Auditing <strong>of</strong> Classes by Senior Citizens<br />
OU will waive the resident tuition for auditing classes<br />
for residents <strong>of</strong> <strong>Oklahoma</strong> who are 65 years <strong>of</strong> age or<br />
older. Such students may be admitted without charge<br />
to classes on a space available basis.<br />

Graduate Assistantships<br />
Departments and colleges employ graduate<br />
students as graduate teaching assistants or graduate<br />
research assistants. <strong>The</strong> amount <strong>of</strong> the stipend paid<br />
and the number <strong>of</strong> graduate assistantships available<br />
vary from department to department. Those interested<br />
in a graduate assistantship should contact the chair <strong>of</strong><br />
the academic department in which they would like to<br />
be employed.<br />
Graduate Fellowships and Grants are available at<br />
various times during the year. Students should contact<br />
the specific academic unit for further information.<br />
Eddie Carol Smith Scholarship<br />
NUMBER GIVEN: 1<br />
AMOUNT: $2,000<br />
TYPE: Merit<br />
ELIGIBILITY: Must be a graduate student on<br />
the Norman campus; carry at least a 3.60 grade<br />
point average in all coursework for the degree; be<br />
approaching the final year <strong>of</strong> the graduate degree;<br />
be engaged in either a doctoral dissertation, master’s<br />
thesis, or master’s capstone project; be recommended<br />
for the award by the major pr<strong>of</strong>essor; have the<br />
endorsement and support <strong>of</strong> the department and the<br />

Kenneth L. Hoving Graduate Fellowship<br />
NUMBER GIVEN: Varies<br />
AMOUNT: <strong>The</strong> award includes a stipend supplement<br />
<strong>of</strong> $5,000; a 0.50 FTE Graduate Teaching or Research<br />
Assistantship; a full tuition waiver for the total number<br />
<strong>of</strong> hours required to complete the degree; a subsidy for<br />
the basic student health insurance plan. Continuation<br />
<strong>of</strong> the award is contigent upon the student making<br />
satisfactory progress toward the degree and the<br />
academic unit’s ongoing commitment to provide a 0.50<br />
FTE.<br />
TYPE: Merit<br />
ELIGIBILITY: Must be an incoming doctoral student in<br />
developmental psychology, history, instrumental music<br />
with preference for piano or violin, physics, or vocal<br />
music with preference for opera; must be a U.S. citizen;<br />
Must have at least a 3.50 GPA.<br />

Lew Wentz Graduate and Law Scholarship<br />
NUMBER GIVEN: 10-20<br />
AMOUNT: $500<br />
ELIGIBILITY: OU Norman campus Graduate and Law<br />
students demonstrating financial need. Other factors<br />
such as honors, activities and academic merit may be<br />
taken into consideration during the selection process.<br />
Students may apply by completing the FAFSA and the<br />
Lew Wentz Graduate and Law Scholarship Application.<br />

McNair Graduate Fellowship<br />
NUMBER GIVEN: Varies<br />
AMOUNT: <strong>The</strong> award includes a stipend supplement <strong>of</strong><br />
$5,000 for PhD students for four years and $2,500 for<br />
master’s students for two years; a 0.50 FTE Graduate<br />
Teaching or Research Assistantship; a full tuition waiver<br />
for the total number <strong>of</strong> hours required to complete the<br />
degree; a subsidy for the basic student health insurance<br />
plan. Continuation <strong>of</strong> the award is contingent upon<br />
the student making satisfactory progress toward the<br />
degree and the academic unit’s ongoing commitment<br />
