Herbert A. and Lela Mitchell Berlin Scholarship<br />

Mathematics; Economics; Laboratory Sciences<br />

Sciences with a lab component); Psychology; or<br />

Foreign Languages. Applicants should have a GPA <strong>of</strong><br />

3.25 or above and show financial need. Current<br />

recipients may reapply. An interview is required.<br />

J. and J. Stevens Scholarship<br />

TYPE: Merit<br />

ELIGIBILITY: Applicants must be incoming freshmen,<br />

currently graduating from high school and be legal<br />

residents <strong>of</strong> Tarrant County, Texas or the North Texas<br />

area. Applicant’s major course <strong>of</strong> study must be in the<br />

College <strong>of</strong> Arts and Sciences. In addition, applicants<br />

must be ranked in the top 25% <strong>of</strong> their high school<br />

class, have a high school GPA <strong>of</strong> 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale),<br />

have compiled an exceptional record <strong>of</strong> high school<br />

extracurricular activities, including community service,<br />

and demonstrated leadership abilities. Students<br />

should apply for this scholarship online while applying<br />

for admission. Anyone experiencing difficulty with<br />

online application should contact the Prospective<br />

Student Services <strong>of</strong>fice at 1-800-234-6868. Two letters<br />

<strong>of</strong> recommendation and a two-page, double-spaced<br />

essay addressing the topic: “Explain your college<br />

and pr<strong>of</strong>essional goals and why the J. and J. Stevens<br />

Scholarship would help you achieve these” should be<br />

sent direction to the college <strong>of</strong>fice.<br />

Jack Roe Denton Memorial Scholarship<br />

NUMBER GIVEN: 1-3<br />

AMOUNT: Min. $1,200<br />

TYPE: Need<br />

ELIGIBILITY: Applicants must be full-time<br />

undergraduate male students who have a major in Arts<br />

and Sciences. Additionally, applicants must have a GPA<br />

<strong>of</strong> 3.0 or above, show financial need and be engaged<br />

in outside employment in order to attend and afford<br />

college. A dated letter from the employer, stating the<br />

number <strong>of</strong> hours worked per week, is required with the<br />

application. Preference will be given to a student from<br />

New York State or the East, but not mandatory. Current<br />

Jon R. Withrow Scholarship<br />

NUMBER GIVEN: 1-5<br />

ELIGIBILITY: Applicants must be full-time<br />

undergraduate students who have a GPA <strong>of</strong> 3.0 or<br />

above and are pursuing a major in the College <strong>of</strong><br />

Arts and Sciences. Additionally, applicants must be<br />

graduates <strong>of</strong> an <strong>Oklahoma</strong> high school in a town <strong>of</strong><br />

less than 15,000 residents, with first preference given<br />

to Seminole County. Current recipients may reapply.<br />

An interview is required.<br />

Leadership Scholars Program<br />

NUMBER GIVEN: 60 participants<br />

AMOUNT: Min. $1,500<br />

TYPE: Merit/Need<br />

ELIGIBILITY: <strong>The</strong> Leadership Scholars Program<br />

recognizes undergraduate students in the College<br />

<strong>of</strong> Arts and Sciences who have a meritorious record<br />

<strong>of</strong> academic achievement by earning a GPA <strong>of</strong> 3.50<br />

or above and demonstrating university or community<br />

service. <strong>The</strong> program is made up <strong>of</strong> 60 participants,<br />

with 20 chosen annually from the incoming sophomore<br />

class. Juniors and seniors may remain in the program<br />

if they have demonstrated interest and activity in<br />

the <strong>of</strong>ferings provided through the program. New<br />

juniors and seniors will be selected as needed to fill<br />

any vacancies. Participants will interact with mentors<br />

and attend monthly meetings to discuss leadership<br />

training, campus resources, graduate programs,<br />

career opportunities and current issues, with special<br />

guest speakers. Applicants who are selected for the<br />

Leadership Scholars Program with a demonstrated<br />

financial need may be awarded a scholarship. An<br />

interview is required.<br />

Les and Mary Puckett Arts and Sciences<br />

Scholarship<br />

NUMBER GIVEN: 1<br />

AMOUNT: $6,000<br />

TYPE: Merit/Need<br />

ELIGIBILITY: Applicants must be high school seniors<br />

who are entering the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Oklahoma</strong> as<br />

freshmen in the next fall semester. In addition, applicants<br />

must plan to pursue a degree in the College <strong>of</strong> Arts
