SPECIAL COLLECTIONS, ARCHIVES, LIBRARY STORE

The Special Collections Section, Library Archives Service and the Library Store
together comprise a distinct division of the library, under the co-ordination and
management of a dedicated Sub-Librarian.

Special Collections Librarian: Ms. Helen Davis
Increased demand for access to UCC theses prompted a reassessment of the
appropriate location for a collection that was always regarded as having
manuscript/archival status.
Some collections were moved from the Aula Maxima to the Special Collections area
while the Aula undergoes renovation.

Library Depository, Pouladuff

The following projects were completed during the year:
• Removal of all remaining stock (over 200 pallets) from the Cooperage building,
Irish Distillers site to transit storage at Victoria Cross;
• Removal of book stock (14 pallets) from the Aula Maxima to temporary storage
at Victoria Cross;
• Removal of backlogs of relegated stock from the Boole Library to the
Depository and Victoria Cross;
• Transfer of ex-Cooperage journal stock from Victoria Cross to the Depository
and the shelving of 70% of this;
• Purchase and installation of c8,500 linear feet of shelving for journals storage at
the Depository;
• The expansion of shelving for DDC stock using existing resources resulting in
a gain of over 3,000 linear feet.
The following activities are in progress:
• Occupation of additional floor space at Pouladuff, including selection, purchase
and installation of shelving;
• Re-sequencing of journals in Quadrant D;
• Completion of shelving of ex-Cooperage journals;
• Merging of journal locations series;
