try to integrate themselves into the departments, many feel isolated. Babson<br />

sees their alignment with the management department as a great strength. Most<br />

others do not see the alignment as one <strong>of</strong> strength. The departments with which<br />

they are aligned do not give them a lot <strong>of</strong> support.<br />

In addition, the use <strong>of</strong> adjuncts may not lead to opportunities to develop relationships<br />

within a department.<br />

■ Participation in an Entrepreneur <strong>of</strong> the Year program gives enormous<br />

benefits to the center and the school.<br />

■ <strong>Successful</strong> programs have found an unfilled need in the community and<br />

met it (e.g., business development, high-tech park or incubator or family<br />

business program). They do not reinvent the wheel or try to compete with<br />

existing programs.<br />

■ Outreach must be meaningful. It should reshape the community and make<br />

a lasting impact.<br />

■ Develop a high-quality brochure and mail it to all AACSB deans and other<br />

center directors.<br />

■ If possible, develop a newsletter that highlights your accomplishments and<br />

those <strong>of</strong> your alumni.<br />

■ Obsess with quality.<br />
