12 FREE CONFIDENTIAL HIV TESTING 10 am - 3 pm TUE Student Health Center, Room 215 The Student Health Center offers traditional confidential HIV testing Monday - Friday by appointment, but if you’re looking for free testing with no needles stop by. The testing is provided by the Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science Mobile HIV Testing Unit (funded by the Office of AIDS Programs and Policy, Los Angeles County Department of Health Services). It is available for students, faculty, and staff. This service is offered on a walk-in, first come-first served basis. FREEDOM MACHINES (followed by discussion and Q&A!) 3:15 pm | U-SU Theatre 1st Floor, University-Student Union Presented as part of Disabilities Awareness Week, Freedom Machines is an unprecedented look at disability in the age of technology, presenting intimate stories of people ages 8 to 93, whose talents and independence are being unleashed by gaining access to modern, enabling technologies. Film followed by a discussion with staff from the Office for Students with Disabilities. Directed by Jamie Stobie, 2008, 76 minutes. SELF-DEFENSE EDUCATION: RAPE AGGRESSION DEFENSE SYSTEMS (R.A.D.) 6:30 - 9:30 pm | Housing Services Phase II Lounge The Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) Systems is a program of realistic self-defense tactics and techniques. It is a comprehensive, womenonly course, which begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and risk avoidance, as well as the basics of hands-on defense training. R.A.D. is not a Martial Arts program. The courses are taught by nationally certified R.A.D. Instructors and provide each student with a workbook/ reference manual. The course includes lecture, discussion and selfdefense techniques, suitable for women of all ages and abilities. The basic physical defense program consists of four sessions lasting three hours each, for a total of twelve hours of instruction including a dynamic simulation. Please note that girls under age 13 may not participate due to the adult-themed subject matter. Sign up by Monday, October 11 at noon at the U-SU Administration Office, Room 306, in the University-Student Union. Cash is the only form of payment accepted by the U-SU. Cal State L.A. CHE PART 1 3:30 pm | Chicana/o Latina/o Student Resource Center 2nd Floor, University-Student Union Stop by the CLSRC for a viewing of Che, part 1, which details the life of Ernesto "Che" Guevara, an Argentine doctor who shares a common goal with Fidel Castro to overthrow the dictatorship of Batista. The film tracks Che’s rise in the Cuban Revolution, from doctor to revolutionary hero. We’ll view Che, part 2, on Wednesday, 10/20 in the same location. Directed by Steven Soderbergh, 2008, 134 minutes. ASIA’S GOT TALENT 5 - 8 pm | U-SU Plaza From classical to the avant-garde, from traditional dance to modern hip-hop dance crews, the Asian Pacific Islander Student Resource Center presents an evening of API talent under the stars that will dazzle your eyes. Performers include: Culture Shock LA dance crew, Rangrashee Dance of India, actress Christine Corpuz (I Am Nothing Like My Mother), Chinese Classical Orchestra, and much more. • L.A.’s popular Kogi BBQ food truck, featuring a fusion of Korean and Mexican cuisine, will be present from 6 - 8 pm during Asia’s Got Talent. To purchase a $1 ticket for a Kogi BBQ food sampler, stop by the the U-SU Administration Office during regular business hours, starting Friday, October 8. Limit one pre-purchase ticket per student w/student ID card. Ticket must be presented to Kogi BBQ truck while on-campus for Asia’s Got Talent. 14 CLOTHESLINE PROJECT Noon - 2 pm | U-SU Plaza THU Visit the Clothesline Project, an annual event to raise awareness about Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault in our communities. Design a t-shirt relaying a positive message to survivors of violence. Campus and community organizations will be available with support and information. Join us at 6:15 pm in the Gender & Sexuality Resource Center for a screening of the film, Every F----ing Day of My Life, which follows the life of a woman convicted of killing her abusive husband. EVERY F---ING DAY OF MY LIFE 6:15 pm | Gender & Sexuality Resource Center 2nd Floor, University-Student Union Stark, appalling, and heartbreaking, Every F---ing Day of My Life depicts a woman’s last four days of freedom before being sentenced to ten years in prison for murdering her brutally abusive husband.
