The Latina superstar was remembered and mourned in documentaries, magazines, web sites, monuments, biographies, murals, look-alike contests, musicals, drag shows, and more. Calling these and other acts of mourning the slain star "Selenidad," Dr. Deborah Paredez, professor of Theatre Arts and Dance at University of Texas at Austin, explores their significance and the broader meanings of remembering Selena. HARVEST OF LONELINESS: THE BRACERO PROJECT (Q&A with filmmaker!) 4 - 6 pm | U-SU Theatre 1st Floor, University-Student Union Blending rare archival footage and photographs together with recent interviews, Harvest of Loneliness shows how several million men, in one of the largest state-managed migrations in history, were imported from 1942 to 1964 to work as cheap, controlled and disposable workers. Film will be followed by a discussion by the film directors and faculty from the CSULA Department of Chicano Studies. Directed by Dr. Gilbert G. "I JUST HAD A FEW BEERS. I’M COOL TO DRIVE.": TAKE THE DUI GOGGLES CHALLENGE TO LEARN THE TRUTH. Noon - 2 pm | U-SU Plaza One of the problems with alcohol is it impairs judgment. You may think your body can handle alcohol without any effects. You’re wrong. Slip on the DUI Goggles and try out the challenge course. This experience will show you that getting into a car with an intoxicated driver is one trip you should never take. Be sure to visit the information tables to pick up resources on how to keep your friends and family safe while they celebrate this holiday season. Information on recognizing alcohol poisoning, what to do when a friend is in trouble, and how to avoid the financial, legal and emotional consequences of a DUI will be available. Before you go to class, share your opinion on whether the legal drinking age should be lowered. You’ll find the opinions shared on our Amethyst Initiative board may surprise you TIPS FOR THE UNIVERSITY 4 pm-7 pm Room TBA 3rd Floor, University-Student Union TIPS for the University is a fun, interactive alcohol awareness program that teaches students how to intervene when their friends are drinking too much or headed for trouble due to alcohol.
