SELENIDAD: SELENA,<br />
LATINOS, AND THE<br />
PERFORMANCE OF MEMORY<br />

An outpouring of memorial tributes and public expressions of grief followed<br />
the 1995 death of the Tejana recording artist Selena. The Latina superstar<br />
was remembered and mourned in documentaries, magazines, web sites,<br />
monuments, biographies, murals, look-alike contests, musicals, drag shows,<br />
and more. Calling these and other acts of mourning the slain star "Selenidad,"<br />
Dr. Deborah Paredez, professor of Theatre Arts and Dance at <strong>University</strong> of<br />
Texas at Austin, explores their significance and the broader meanings of<br />
remembering Selena.<br />

friends and family members who passed away. Join the Chicana/o<br />
Latina/o <strong>Student</strong> Resource Center for our annual Día de los Muertos<br />
Pachanga, packed with awesome activities and performances which<br />
will include: an altar display, sugar skull decorating, Azteca Dance,<br />
