|η| < 1.8, a presampler detector is used to correct for the energy lost by electrons and photons upstream<br />
of the calorimeter. In the transition region between the barrel and the end-cap calorimeters, |η| ∼ 1.45,<br />
the detector response is deteriorated with respect to the rest of the acceptance. This “crack region” is not<br />
used for photon identification nor for precision measurements for electrons. The resolution goal of the EM<br />
calorimeter, as quoted in Table 3.2, is σE/E = 10%/ √ E ⊕0.7%. This is needed to achieve a mass resolution<br />
