SUNDAY: Meet in Brussels and transfer
to ‘Marjorie II,’ moored in Antwerp, the
capital of Flanders. After a champagne
welcome, there is time for an evening
stroll before dinner on board.
MONDAY: In Antwerp today, visit three
must-see sights: the home of Baroque
painter Peter Paul Rubens; Plantin-
Moretus Museum, a print shop from
1555 to 1876; and the beautiful Gothic
Cathedral of Our Lady. Then cruise to
the contemporary city of Hasselt.
TUESDAY: After breakfast, visit the
authentic 19th-century distillery at the
National Genever Museum to learn
about Belgium’s traditional liquor,
which is flavored with juniper berry.
After lunch, stop at Genoels-Elderen,
Belgium’s largest winery, for a tour and
‘Marjorie II’ cruising along the waterway
tasting. Dine on board tonight at Liége,
the overnight mooring.
WEDNESDAY: Today’s excursion takes
you to Eupen in the German-speaking
part of Belgium to visit Chocolat
Jacques, a chocolate factory founded
in 1896. Learn about all aspects of
chocolate, from cultivation of cacao to
the finished product. In the afternoon,
cruise to Huy. It originated as a Roman
village in the sixth century and is one of
Belgium’s oldest towns.
THURSDAY: Explore the Waterloo
Battlefield and learn about the great
confrontation between Napoleon’s
troops and those of Wellington and
Blücher. The site has been preserved and
appears much as it was at the time of the
battle in 1815.
