SATURDAY: Meet in Dijon and transfer
to ‘Caprice’ for welcome drinks. As you
and your fellow travellers anticipate the
week ahead, the barge begins its journey
along the Burgundy Canal to Ouges for
the evening mooring.
SUNDAY: Return to Dijon, known
for its mustard, and embark on a
walking tour of its lovely medieval
center this morning. After lunch on
board, ‘Caprice’ continues cruising
on the canal. You have opportunities
to walk or c ycle on the towpath.
MONDAY: Local monks produced wine
at Clos de Vougeot as early as the 12th
century. Enjoy a private wine tasting
here before the afternoon cruise to
Chalon-sur-Saône, the second-largest
city in Burgundy and an important
‘Caprice’ cruising in Southern Burgundy
trading center since Gallo-Roman times.
Visit the beautiful medieval town center
surrounding Cathédrale Saint-Vincent.
TUESDAY: ‘Caprice’ enters the Canal
du Centre today via a lock with a 50-foot
rise. Cruise along an attractive, winding
stretch where a good towpath and fairly
frequent locks offer ample opportunities
to walk or cycle. This afternoon, visit
the nearby village of Rully for a guided
tour of a 12th-century château. Rejoin
the barge, moored in the lovely town
of Chagny.
WEDNESDAY: After breakfast, explore
Beaune, the wine capital of Burgundy.
Visit the magnificent Hôtel-Dieu,
a charity hospital founded in 1443
and boasting the finest Burgundian-
Flemish architecture in the world. In
