1. Target Group
The revised programme targets three categories of people, namely Direct Entry, Diploma Holders and Mature Entry
Scheme in relevant programmes.
2. Minimum Admission Requirements
Admission to the B.Sc. in Software Engineering (BSc.SE) degree course will be through three avenues; Direct Entry,
Mature age and Diploma entry schemes. To be admitted for a course leading to an award of Bachelor of Science in
Software Engineering (BSc.SE) Degree, a candidate must satisfy the general admission requirements for Makerere
University. In addition, the following regulations shall hold:
a) Direct Entry
Candidates seeking admission through this avenue must have obtained:
i. At least two principal passes at the same sitting in Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE)
of which one of them must be in either Mathematics or Physics.
ii. A minimum weighted points set by the Admissions Board.
iii. For purposes of computing weighted points, the A- level subjects shall be grouped and weighted as follows:
Group Weight Subjects
Essential 3 Any two best done subjects among: Mathematics, Physics,
Economics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Literature,
Entrepreneurship, Technical Drawing and Fine Art
Relevant 2 Any other best done subject of all A’ level subjects
Desirable 1 General Paper, Sub-Mathematics
Others 0.5 All others.
b) Mature Entry Scheme
For admission under Mature Entry Scheme, a candidate must have passed a Makerere University Mature Age
Entry Examinations.
c) Diploma Holders
Applicants should possess at least a second class (lower division) Diploma in Computer Science, Engineering,
Statistics or any other diploma with either Mathematics or Computer Science as one of the subjects from any
recognized institution.
3. Nature of the Programme
The day programme has both government and privately sponsored students. The evening programme has privately
sponsored students only.
4. Duration
The duration of the programme shall be three (4) academic years consisting of eight semesters and two recess terms.
Each semester lasts for seventeen (17) weeks and two (2) weeks of which are for examinations.
5. Tuition Fees
Tuition fees for privately sponsored students shall be 2,600,000 Uganda Shillings per year for Ugandans and
5,050,000 Uganda Shillings per year for non Ugandans. This is the same tuition fees for the existing curriculum.
