4.5 Calculation of the Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA)
The cumulative grade point average at a given time shall be obtained by:
a) Multiplying the grade point obtained in each course by the Credit Units (CU) assigned to the Course to
arrive at the Weighted Score for the Course.
b) Adding together the Weighted Scores for all Courses taken up to that time to obtain total Weighted Score.
c) Dividing the total Weighted Score by the total number of Credit Units taken (attempted) up to that time.
Example:
Courses CU Grade points Weighted Score
CSC 1100 4 3.0 C 3.0 x 4 = 12
CSK 1101 4 4.0 B 4.0 x 4 = 16
BIT 1100 3 4.0 B 4.0 x 3 = 12
CSC 1104 4 5.0 A+ 5.0 x 4 = 20
CSC 1106 3 2.0 C- 2.0 x 3 = 6
Total 18 Total = 66
(66 divided by 18 i.e. 66/18 = 3.66 CGPA)
4.6 Classification of a Degree/Diploma
The degree obtained in the Faculty of Computing and Informatics Technology shall be classified according to the CGPA
as follows;
CLASS CGPA
First 4.40 – 5.00
Second Upper Division 3.60 – 4.39
Second Lower Division 2.80 – 3.59
Pass 2.00 – 2.79
4.7 Approval of Examination Results
The Senate has delegated the power to approve all examination results to the Board of the Faculty. But the results
shall not be regarded as final until they are confirmed by Senate on submission of Appropriate Pass Lists to Senate
by the relevant Board. The Appropriate Pass lists to Senate should be accompanied with Faculty Board Minutes.
Students shall be provided with examination results using the approved testimonial format.
4.8 Appeals
Any student or candidate aggrieved by a decision of the Board of the Faculty of Computing and Informatics
Technology may appeal to the Senate Examinations Committee for reversal or Moderation of the decision of the
Board.
4.9 Publication of results
The relevant department shall publish provisional Examination Results of Candidates in every examination son after
the meeting of departmental Examination Committee; the Examination Results shall be arranged and published in a
manner as prescribed by Senate.
