10.2 Certificate in Computer Applications (CCA)
Students are trained on how to use a Computer and Computer Applications in an office or business setting. CCA
course comprises of: Introduction to Computers and Computer Systems, Introduction to Operating Systems,
Word Processing with Microsoft word, Spreadsheets with Microsoft Excel, and Presentations with Microsoft Power
Point, Databases with Ms. Access, Graphics Design with Corel Draw and Web Technology for managing Email and
using search engines. CCA is a 50 hour course, no matter what times and a date a person chooses to study. CCA
gives a wide and vibrant variety of course which have been carefully chosen to give any individual a good
jump start to computing and making them competent in computing.
Course Content:
• Introduction to Computers and Computer Systems which basically covers the History of Computers,
the types of computers and the different computer parts broken into Hardware and software,
components of the computer and aspects of computing.
• Introduction to Operating Systems which covers the different types of operating systems we have,
choosing a good operating systems and the advantages and disadvantages one has over the other.
• Microsoft Word basically covers using MS Word but emphasis is on Introduction of Ms word, Window
properties and saving, Headers, Footers & Footnotes, find & replace, editing fonts & alignment,
Columns, section & column breaks, tables, Using and creating a mail merge among many.
• Microsoft Excel covers introduction to Excel, properties of the worksheets, using simple formulas
(adding, multiplying etc), Complex formulae (importing formulae, using the paste function & help) and
Charts and the chart wizards, save options & print options.
