CCA course comprises of: Introduction to Computers and Computer Systems, Introduction to Operating Systems, Word Processing with Microsoft word, Spreadsheets with Microsoft Excel, and Presentations with Microsoft Power Point, Databases with Ms. Access, Graphics Design with Corel Draw and Web Technology for managing Email and using search engines. CCA is a 50 hour course, no matter what times and a date a person chooses to study. CCA gives a wide and vibrant variety of course which have been carefully chosen to give any individual a good jump start to computing and making them competent in computing. Course Content: • Introduction to Computers and Computer Systems which basically covers the History of Computers, the types of computers and the different computer parts broken into Hardware and software, components of the computer and aspects of computing. • Introduction to Operating Systems which covers the different types of operating systems we have, choosing a good operating systems and the advantages and disadvantages one has over the other. • Microsoft Word basically covers using MS Word but emphasis is on Introduction of Ms word, Window properties and saving, Headers, Footers & Footnotes, find & replace, editing fonts & alignment, Columns, section & column breaks, tables, Using and creating a mail merge among many. • Microsoft Excel covers introduction to Excel, properties of the worksheets, using simple formulas (adding, multiplying etc), Complex formulae (importing formulae, using the paste function & help) and Charts and the chart wizards, save options & print options. 124
• Microsoft PowerPoint covers Introduction(Auto content wizard, design templates and layouts), inserting images, charts, audio and video streams, Designing in PowerPoint (certificate or Dinner cards) and Doing a presentation, animating and slide transitions. • Microsoft Access covers Introduction to Databases and understanding terms & tables, designing multiple tables, creating relationships and creating Queries, Forms and Reports. • Web Technologies which covers understanding networks and Search engines, emailing and sending attachments. • CorelDraw basically covers Introduction to CorelDraw, understanding and using the tools and Designing a business card. Minimum Admission Requirements: To be admitted for a course leading to the award of Certificate in Computer Applications, a candidate must know English. Note: Individuals intending to attend the CCA course are advised to pay and register early enough before the commencement of the particular intake they are interested in as admissions to intakes are on first-come-first-served basis and there is a limit on the class size. 10.3 International Computer Driving License (ICDL) This course equips students with confidence to participate in the global digital society; improves the students’ quality of life by gaining a better working knowledge of computers; increases their value in the workplaces by possessing a valuable credential. Course Content: Module 1: Basics of Information Technology Module 2: using a computer and file management Module 3: word processing Module 4: Microsoft Excel (Spreadsheets) Module 5: Microsoft access (Database) Module 6: Microsoft PowerPoint (presentations) Module 3: Information and Communication Minimum Admission Requirements: O’ Level certificate is required 10.4 Microsoft Academy Programmes Since June 2003, the Faculty of Computing and IT has been running a Microsoft IT Academy Programme. To date, more than 100 students have acquired different IT certifications by attending different Programmes offered in the Academy. This course prepares students for academic education tracks, career opportunities as Network Administrators, Technical Support Specialists, Software/Hardware Developers, Design Engineers, and Office Specialists. Students train in: Visual Studio, NET Professional, Visual Basic, Visual C++, Visual FoxPro, Visual InterDev, and Visual J++; Microsoft .NET Enterprise Servers, Windows Server, SQL Server, Exchange Server, Commerce Server, BizTalk Server, Host Integration Server, Application Center Server, Systems Management Server, Mobile Information 2001 Server, and Content Management Servers; Microsoft Operating Systems: Windows 2000 Professional, Windows 2000 Server, Windows 2000 Advanced Server, Windows 2000 Datacenter Server, Windows 2000 Small Business Server, and Windows XP Professional; Microsoft Office 2000 and Microsoft Office XP Professional.
