In 19 2 6 Deer Lake was selected by March a nd Eddy a s a<br />
potential mission field . The town , s i te <strong>of</strong> a major hydro<br />
development and a logging c e ntre, re had been built in a hu rry.<br />
People from across Newfoundl a nd mov ed there in s earch <strong>of</strong><br />
employment. 19 March and Eddy r ealize d that exp ansion from<br />

financial or otherw l se- - f r om S t . John 's . 20 T h e money<br />
subsequently c a me largely f r om March' s po cket. 21 He wen t to<br />
Deer Lake and secured a bu ilding that had hou sed a restaurant.<br />
Returning to Humbez-mout.h , he a nn oun c ed that he wanted s ome<br />
c onve r t s t o travel t o Deer Lake t o co nduct servi ces . Tha t was<br />
only t h e beginning , he e mphasiz ed; he wanted t o see Pente<br />
costal missions all over the i sla nd . March called a meeti ng<br />
to determine who would be sent to evangelize the new town. A<br />
dozen prospective workers met with h i m. He asked each or them<br />
to "write down the names o f t he o nes we t hink would be ready<br />
in case we want t hem" . The list f inalized, the workers knelt<br />
to pray, seeking God's gu idance as t hey prepa r ed to invade new<br />
areas with the full gos pel a nd , at the same t i me, ratify<br />
March's selection <strong>of</strong> Deer Lake a s the first area o f c oncentra<br />
tion outside Humbermouth.22 The co nvert ed had become the<br />
