Introduction
love learning
It is with great pleasure that I write this foreword for the third Limerick Lifelong
Learning Festival. This year’s festival builds on the successes of the last two years and
will run from 18th to 24th March inclusive. It features almost 200 events and activities
– all of which are free and open to all.
The festival promotes and celebrates learning in all its forms and for all ages, and
provides a tremendous opportunity to promote Limerick as a Region of Learning. The
theme for this year’s festival is ‘Learn Your Way to the Future’. This theme is timely,
reflecting the challenging environments we live and work in – where we must all be
learners – adapting and changing all the time.
The 2013 Festival features a wide range of events right across Limerick City and
County. This is important considering that both Limerick City and County Councils are
now in the process of creating a new progressive local government entity for Limerick.
The Festival this year has again been organised by our Steering Group (a subcommittee
of Limerick City Development Board), in collaboration with Limerick
Communications Office, Limerick County VEC and Limerick County Council, West
Limerick Resources and Ballyhoura Development Ltd.
May I take this opportunity to wish all participants well for this third Lifelong
Learning Festival week. Given the commitment and creativity of the many partners
who are involved in the various events and activities, I am certain that the 2013
Festival will exceed all our expectations
Chair of the Limerick City of Learning Steering Group
