Thomond Park Showcase<br />

<strong>Lifelong</strong> <strong>Learning</strong> <strong>Festival</strong> Showcase -<br />

Thomond Park - 11.00am – 2.00pm<br />

This year’s festival has a showcase event planned for Thomond Park and will be a celebration of festival<br />

highlights! This exciting ‘Learner Market’ will include a var<strong>ie</strong>ty of performances, workshops and displays – all<br />

involving the learner in a fun and interactive way. There will be something on offer for all the family, both young<br />

and old!<br />

The event will highlight our <strong>Festival</strong> Theme – ‘Learn Your Way to the Future!’ – indeed we all learn<br />

something new every day!<br />

Thomond Park Munster Exper<strong>ie</strong>nce Museum<br />

Thanks to our hosts Thomond Park Stadium for opening the museum to our visitors free of charge for<br />

our event. The Munster Exper<strong>ie</strong>nce Museum gives you an insight into the history of Munster Rugby<br />

and Thomond Park Stadium. Discover the powerful phenomenon that Munster has become. See how<br />

the new stadium was built, a video montage with pictures and facts will show you. Visit the Munster<br />

Exper<strong>ie</strong>nce Museum and feel the inspiration and determination which surrounds Munster Rugby and<br />

Thomond Park today!<br />

iMix – LCFE Online Radio: Live broadcast coverage of the event<br />

<strong>Limerick</strong> College of Further Education is celebrating 50 years providing education in the city this year. To<br />

mark the opening of its celebrations, LCFE’s online radio station iMix will broadcast live coverage of the<br />

Thomond Park event as part of its week-long programming dedicated to the <strong>Limerick</strong> <strong>Lifelong</strong> <strong>Learning</strong><br />

<strong>Festival</strong>. The station will bring all the colour of the event to life and rev<strong>ie</strong>w some of the highlight events of<br />

the previous days. Staffed entirely by media students at LCFE, iMix as the ‘voice of the festival’ will bring<br />

live learning to life. Live audio will be streamed through the station’s website www.imixradio.<strong>ie</strong> and visitors<br />

to Thomond Park will get to hear and learn from LCFE students broadcasting the programme.<br />

Television and Video Production Green Screen Demo Studio<br />

<strong>Limerick</strong> College of Further Education Media Department students will demo the use of green screen<br />

for compositing images and video streams together. This technique is commonly used for newscasting,<br />

weather forecast broadcasting and in the videogame industr<strong>ie</strong>s. Visitors to the Thomond Park event will<br />

get an opportunity to try their hand at presenting to camera and v<strong>ie</strong>wing themselves on a large-screen<br />

plasma TV. They will also learn how cameras, sound and lighting produce television output.<br />

Playground Sc<strong>ie</strong>nce<br />

From skipping ropes, to footballs, from hula-hoops to mirrors, Professor Hussey of Civil Engineering<br />

&Materials Sc<strong>ie</strong>nce, University of <strong>Limerick</strong> brings out the sc<strong>ie</strong>nce of the playground. Fun for all the family.<br />

StoryFactory:<br />

A fun event for parents and children brought to you by <strong>Limerick</strong> City Adult Education Service. Build your<br />

own story and tell it to the world in our story booth. Lots of fun reading activit<strong>ie</strong>s, face-painting and more.<br />

CPR for Family and Fr<strong>ie</strong>nds<br />

Demonstration by Acute Medical Training on the basics of CPR and how to react and deal with lifethreatening<br />

emergenc<strong>ie</strong>s in the home or office. Information on how to recognise the symptoms of heart<br />

attach, stroke and how to deal with cardiac arrest, choking in adult, child and infant, and demonstrate the<br />

use of a defibrillator. Try CPR with the help of instructors or simply watch and gather information.<br />

Taking The Past Off The Page!<br />

What was it really like to live in the 16 th Century> Wearing 19 th Century Irish clothing, members of<br />

Iryshe Tudor Companye will take you back to the time of the Tudors. See how livings were earned,<br />

what games were played, and try your hand at some 16 th Century crafts and amusements! See www.<br />

Take that First Step Back into <strong>Learning</strong> (National Adult Literacy Agency)<br />

Literacy students who are members of National Adult Literacy Agency (NALA) student sub-committee<br />

will be available to talk about:<br />

- Taking the first step back into learning as an adult<br />

- A new website for parents ‘Help my kid learn’ - www.helpmykidlearn.<strong>ie</strong><br />

Laugh for No Reason at All! – Laughter Yoga with Ang<strong>ie</strong><br />

Laughter Yoga teaches to generate laughter in order to improve mood and health, even when you don’t<br />

immune system, creativity and memory.<br />
