glossed as “may you/we listen (to story x)”, while the second (warṇanĕn) can be glossed as
great frequency of uses of rӗngön as a device to more forward narratives may help account
for its being understood as a separate baseword in derivations like rĕngĕ-rĕngöna.
26 I have used slashes to indicate the internal yati breaks of the meter (Śārdūlawikrīḍita) after the 12th syllable.
In my arrticle on yati in OJ (Hunter: 2009, in the Indo-Iranian Journal) I have noted that Mpu Panuluh observed
the yati breaks in meters like Śārdūla- with greater care in his later career than at the beginning (by comparing
his work in the HW and GK. These examples, however, suggest a relative disregard for the rule that the fault of
“one-syllableness” should not result from a construction that results in a lexeme’s crossing the yati break, and
points toward the conclusion that Mpu Panuluh’s work falls in with that of several other poets of the Kaḍiri
period (including Mpu Monaguṇa, but not Mpu Dharmaja) who disregarded rules on yati with relatively great
frequency.
