anivarté – Lord Kåñëa bravely faced the Ariñöäsura demon and<br />

rebuked the fleeing cowherd men, calling them cowards; nivåttätmä –<br />

seeing that all the cowherd men had fled, He faced the demon alone;<br />

saìkñeptä – He easily killed Ariñöäsura, grasping the demon’s horns<br />

with His hand; kñema-kåt – by killing Ariñöäsura He returned the land<br />

<strong>of</strong> Våndävana to an auspicious condition; siva – when the gopés heard<br />

that Kåñëa had killed a demon in the form <strong>of</strong> a bull, they rejected His<br />

association because He had become sinful. To satisfy the gopés, Kåñëa<br />

then called all sacred rivers and bathed in them all at once to return<br />

Himself to a pure and auspicious condition; çrévatsa-vakñä – His chest<br />

is decorated with the mark <strong>of</strong> çrévatsa, the resting place <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Goddess <strong>of</strong> Fortune; çréväsa – He is very attached to His residence in<br />

the beautiful land <strong>of</strong> Vraja, at the foot <strong>of</strong> Govardhana Hill; çré-pati –<br />

He protected the gopés from the wrath <strong>of</strong> Indra; çrématämbara – He is<br />

the best <strong>of</strong> all eloquent orators and the best <strong>of</strong> the cowherd boys <strong>of</strong><br />

Vraja.<br />

çréda – Lord Kåñëa generously gives opulent gifts to His friends and<br />

relatives; çréça – He is the controller <strong>of</strong> all opulence, nevertheless He<br />

prevents His devotees from attaining material opulence that might<br />

hinder their spiritual progress; çréniväsa – He always resides in the<br />

land <strong>of</strong> Gokula, which is full <strong>of</strong> unparalleled spiritual opulence;<br />

çrénidhi – all transcendental beauty and opulence are stored up in<br />

Him, as jewels in a jewel-box; çrévibhävana – He manifests all beauty<br />

and opulence; çrédhara – He is supremely handsome, and He<br />

maintains the gopés <strong>of</strong> Våndävana and the Goddesses <strong>of</strong> Fortune;<br />

çrékara – all spiritual opulence resides within His lotus hand; çreya –<br />
