d) “Central Girls’ School of Monastir” (Demetriou Brothers School for<br />

Girls)<br />

The Central Girls’ School of Monastir was built in 1880 by benefactors<br />

Ioannis and Theochares Demetriou (from Egypt) and had an enrolment<br />

of 581. 71 In 1883 the school had an enrolment of 409 (177 in the Nursery<br />

School, 186 in the Lower School, 46 in the Upper School) and a staff of<br />

4; a year later (1884) the number of girls had climbed to 450. 72 In 1906<br />

there were 512 girls in the school, and 11 teachers. 73 In 1912 the school had<br />
