The preferred alternative includes a number <strong>of</strong> measures to rehabilitate <strong>and</strong><br />

improve the condition <strong>of</strong> the Generals Highway, including repairs <strong>and</strong><br />

improvements to address inadequate drainage, slumping, pavement cracking,<br />

potholes, <strong>and</strong> other structural problems. New pullouts <strong>and</strong> improvements at<br />

intersections <strong>and</strong> parking areas along the highway also are components <strong>of</strong> the<br />

project. If the project is approved, work could start as early as 2014, depending on<br />

available funding.<br />

2011051024 Downtown San Bernardino Passenger Rail Project<br />

SANBAG is proposing to extend Metrolink service approximately one mile east<br />

from the existing San Bernardino Metrolink Station/Santa Fe Depot to the<br />

proposed San Bernardino Transit Center in downtown San Bernardino, California.<br />

The Downtown San Bernardino Passenger Rail Project consists <strong>of</strong> several major<br />

components, including double-tracking the existing rail corridor (westernmost one<br />

mile <strong>of</strong> the redl<strong>and</strong>s branchline), construction <strong>of</strong> rail platforms, station amenities,<br />

parking lot near the transit center, grade crossing improvements <strong>and</strong> closures,<br />

railroad signalization, <strong>and</strong> roadway improvements. Other improvements include<br />

darinage facility improvements, replacements, <strong>and</strong> extensions, utility<br />

replacements/relocations, <strong>and</strong> implementation <strong>of</strong> safety controls.<br />

<strong>2012</strong>031013 St. Michael's Abbey Project<br />

The Project requests a Use Permit(s) <strong>and</strong> Site Development Permit to allow for<br />

development <strong>of</strong> St. Michael's Abbey Project. The Project includes development <strong>of</strong><br />

a new Monastery Church, a Monastery School <strong>and</strong> associated recreational<br />

facilities, as well as a Convent, Guest Cottages, Chapel, <strong>and</strong><br />

Agricultural/Maintenance buildings. The main buildings would be clustered in the<br />

central portion <strong>of</strong> the site <strong>and</strong> would preserve approximately 68.7 acres (55<br />

percent <strong>of</strong> the site) in undisturbed open space, with an additional 37.6 acres (30.4<br />

percent <strong>of</strong> the site) <strong>of</strong> green space areas, including agricultural fields, athletic<br />

fields, l<strong>and</strong>scaped areas, water quality features, <strong>and</strong> gardens. The Monastery<br />

Church would serve as the home <strong>of</strong> the Norbertine Fathers <strong>of</strong> Orange,<br />

accommodating up to 85 Fathers <strong>and</strong> up to 12 nuns. The Monastery School would<br />

accommodate up to 100 students, who would reside onsite during the school<br />

week.<br />
