J’aime lire, Le matin, Moi je lis, Bilan...). He received the Töpffer Price in 2003 for
his book Les Sardines sont cuites. Guillaume Long is the director of the collection
Once one knows how to read, many doors are open to us :
• One can read scary stories... and then tell them to others.
• One can see what it’s really like on the moon.
• One can also know what one is going to eat, thanks to descriptions in the menu.
And it is sometimes reassuring!
By asking children, we found 101 good reasons to enjoy reading: escapism,
knowledge, information, sociability, enjoying the language... There are certainly
many more reasons, but Guillaume Long wouldn’t have had time to illustrate them
all!
This picture book makes it possible to broach in a new and funny way the stakes
of reading in all its forms.
Olivier Bardy was born in Paris in 1969. After studying economics, advertising and
cinema, he directed several short-films and is currently preparing his first full-length
film.
François Aubin was born in 1969 in Basse-Normandie. Having graduated in Fine
Arts and having trained as a graphic artist, he currently lives in Strasbourg. He
published two books with the École des loisirs publishing house (Foot —Football—
and La Pêche miraculeuse —The Miraculous Draught of Fishes) as an author and
illustrator.
“Not everyone can solve the world’s problems. It might take a child’s imagination to
be able to do it...”
What would the world look like if its creator was a child?
For Bardy and Aubin, the answers are obvious and numerous: cats would be
equipped with handles, Carambars (a French sweets brand) would be the national
currency, cows would be train drivers... And, most of all, readers would never get
bored!
With a quirky humour, at times fresh and at times sardonic, the book broaches,
without any fuss, topical issues like global warming, video games or consumption.
Quand je referai le monde…
The day I solve the world’s problems
The tree emerges from the soil, covers itself with fruits which end
up by flying away.
A field of flowers begins to blossom. Let the child colour it in and
the book will become a unique funny and precious object.
