A fisherman catches a fish in the Venetian lagoon. Is it
really a fish? Or maybe a sea monster or a unicorn from
the deep? What if it were a real mermaid ? The rumour
grows, spread by buxom women, leaning on their balconies,
dreaming gondoliers and giggly, curious children.
Albertine expresses her work in three dimensions, which
she started in La Marelle, and stages her imaginative
world. The canals of Venice are a special setting for this
story of images and allusions.
Le Chat botté
Blurb
After his death, an old miller gives all his belongings
to his three sons. The youngest one inherits a cat.
Penniless and not knowing what to do with such a
present, he considers eating it. But it turns out that
the cat can talk. In exchange for a bag and a pair of
boots, and with a lot of craftiness, the cat will transform
the young man into a powerful gentleman, the
Marquis of Carabas, and thus make it possible for
him to marry the princess of the kingdom.
Albertine’s fine and colourful gouaches delicately
illustrate this classic tale. Playing with the suppleness
of the bodies and the freshness of the slightly
acid colours, her pictures give a sparkling and light
sensuality to Perrault’s text.
