SOLANA BEACH —<br />

Each year people and cities<br />

around the world honor the<br />

planet by turning out their<br />

lights for one symbolic hour<br />

called “Earth Hour,” sponsored<br />

by World Wildlife Fund.<br />

This year it will be held from<br />

8 to 9:30 p.m. <strong>March</strong> 23.<br />

Residents can participate<br />

in your homes by turning<br />

out all lights for the hour, or<br />

join a special Comm unity<br />

Conversation, “Going Beyond<br />

the Hour” with guest speaker<br />

Dr. Lynne Talley, Scripps<br />

Institution of Oceanography<br />

scientist/UCSD Professor, at a<br />

special gathering at Fletcher<br />

Cove Community Center.<br />

<strong>The</strong>re will be an Earth Hour<br />

<strong>2013</strong> official video.<br />

Residents are asked to<br />

bring flashlights and to dress<br />

warmly for optional star-gazing.<br />

<strong>The</strong> event organizers are<br />

Solana Beach Clean and<br />

Green Committee, ?co-sponsored<br />

by the city of Solana<br />

Beach. This event began in<br />

Sydney, Australia in 2007<br />

when two million people<br />

switched off their lights to<br />

support environmentally sustainable<br />

action. <strong>The</strong> hour is<br />

now observed by more than<br />

150 countries and territories.<br />
