MARCH 22, 2013 Join Connor’s Cause golf tourney COAST CITIES — It’ s time now to get in volved with Carlsbad-based Conner’s Cause. The 16th ann ual Conner’s Cause f or Children Golf Classic is set for April 18 at Twin Oaks Golf Course, 1425 N. Twin Oaks Valley Road, San Marcos. Proceeds from this event benefit f amilies with the monumental task of caring for a c hild with a life threatening illness. Golfers can reserve their spot no w along with Take part in ‘Earth Hour’ SOLANA BEACH — Each year people and cities around the world honor the planet by turning out their lights for one symbolic hour called “Earth Hour,” sponsored by World Wildlife Fund. This year it will be held from 8 to 9:30 p.m. March 23. Residents can participate in your homes by turning out all lights for the hour, or join a special Comm unity Conversation, “Going Beyond the Hour” with guest speaker Dr. Lynne Talley, Scripps Institution of Oceanography scientist/UCSD Professor, at a special gathering at Fletcher Cove Community Center. There will be an Earth Hour 2013 official video. Residents are asked to bring flashlights and to dress warmly for optional star-gazing. The event organizers are Solana Beach Clean and Green Committee, ?co-sponsored by the city of Solana Beach. This event began in Sydney, Australia in 2007 when two million people switched off their lights to support environmentally sustainable action. The hour is now observed by more than 150 countries and territories. Conner’s Cause f or Children is the only nonprofit organization in the San Diego region that offers direct family assistance for out-of-pocket expenses relating to an y and all life threatening illnesses associated with children. Conner’s Cause w orks to minimize the impact of skyrocketing medical and non-medical expenses on families already burdened by the emotional str ess of caring for a sick child.
