5. Role of Organisations<br />

This section explains the role of various<br />

organisations in general and the specific<br />

responsibilities that each could undertake in<br />

the area of <strong>Masters</strong> <strong>Sport</strong>.<br />

5.1 State and Regional <strong>Sport</strong><br />

Associations<br />

State and Regional <strong>Sport</strong> Associations are<br />

generally responsible for administering<br />

competitions, promoting their individual<br />

sport, establishing a framework of guidelines<br />

and rules under which people may participate<br />

within a sport and facilitating elite<br />

development.<br />

In the area of <strong>Masters</strong> <strong>Sport</strong>, State and<br />

Regional <strong>Sport</strong> Associations could assist in<br />

increasing the number of people in the<br />

<strong>Masters</strong> <strong>Sport</strong> age category participating in<br />

their sport by undertaking all or some of the<br />

following tasks:<br />

◗ Ensuring <strong>Masters</strong> <strong>Sport</strong> is included in<br />

association strategic plans,<br />

◗ Encouraging <strong>Masters</strong> <strong>Sport</strong> to be<br />

addressed in club development plans,<br />

◗ Promoting <strong>Masters</strong> <strong>Sport</strong> directly to clubs,<br />

◗ Creating local / regional / state<br />

competition or games with masters<br />

components,<br />

◗ Providing training and information on<br />

<strong>Masters</strong> <strong>Sport</strong> issues, and<br />

◗ Promoting <strong>Masters</strong> <strong>Sport</strong> role models.<br />
