There are also practice tests for the GED, SAT and Civil Service and other occupational tests, tutorials for Adobe and Microsoft software, and U.S. Citizenship practice tests. You create your own personal login, and the site will save all of your progress. Try our newest database, “Heritage- Quest Online,” for some genealogical research. April 2013 ALL AROUND PENNSAUKEN Page 25 Food Adventures In Pennsauken: Taste of Pennsauken By Rachael Rivera, AAP Columnist Pennsauken offers so many varieties of cuisine in and around our Township. It’s fortunate to be from a place that is so central to urban, suburban and rural food scenes, as well as more worldly dishes. For the longest time Pennsauken has been home to places like The Pub, Penn Queen Diner, Macaro’s Deli, and Montegrillo’s continued from page 19 Yes, they are recyclable, but you shouldn’t place them in your yellow can. Most supermarkets provide containers at their entrance for the recycling of these bags. Better yet, consider using your own reusable bag when you go shopping. As the numbers above indicate, food waste and yard waste is a large part of the trash stream. What can you do about that? Consider creating a back yard compost pile. This will allow you to remove most food waste from the trash stream. Leave your grass clipping on the lawn when you cut. They will decompose naturally and add valuable nutrients to your lawn. Leafs and other yard waste can also be added to the compost pile. If composting won’t work for you, the Township does offer yard waste collection once a week, year round. Grass clip- Italian restaurant. More recently, the food scene has evolved to include places offering Pho, a popular Vietnamese dish, vegetarian food and traditional Indian dishes. In my experience as a Pennsauken resident, I’ve noticed that the true gastro “Meccas” can be found all along Westfield Avenue, parts of Maple or Park avenues, and along Routes130 and 70. That can is to be used exclusively for your single stream recyclables. There is no limit on the amount of recyclables or yard waste that you can place out every week. There are still some things which can’t be recycled. Any type of hazardous waste should be disposed of at one of the “Special Waste Collection Days” provided by Camden County. Look for the dates in each month’s “Talking Trash.” Dirty diapers or any type of bio-hazardous waste cannot be recycled. Items such as ceramic, china, dishes, mirrors, light bulbs, Pyrex, porcelain and window glass are also not recyclable. Together, with a little effort, we can increase our recycling results while helping to reduce waste collection costs. The Woman’s Club of Merchantville along with their evening membership department and Juniors Group, are sponsoring the first annual Taste of Pennsauken held on Monday, April 29 from 6-9 p.m. at the Pennsauken Country Club, 3800 Haddonfield Rd. The event will feature culinary samplings from approximately 20 local restaurants and food vendors, all in one location. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Funds raised from this event will be donated to Pennsauken Neighbors Helping Neighbors, a grass roots organization helping residents in need.
