ATTENTION: Please bring your donation on the dates
Listening Session at SCL April 20 - In preparation for
the Archdiocesan Synod we are seeking input from all our
Catholics on what ways we can improve our parish and
our diocese in the years ahead. The listening session will
not be a forum to complain about Church teaching or
about the parish. They are for identifying proposals for
growth and fidelity to the Church. They are for
identifying areas of vitality in the parish and the diocese
and areas that could be improved. There are five areas to
be considered: Worship; Education; Community; Service
and Administration/Stewardship. Comments from the
listening session will be collected and sent to the
archdiocese for consideration at the Archdiocesan Synod
to take place in 2014. We are planning to have our
listening session on Saturday, April 20 from 11 am to 1
pm in the Claridge Room. Pizza will be provided at 1 pm
and a freewill offering accepted. Please plan to be with us
that morning, April 20 from 11 am to 1 pm.
Our annual archdiocesan Lenten invitation to all
Catholics to experience our Lord’s mercy and
compassion in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. This is
a wonderful opportunity to renew our baptismal
covenant, whereby we promise to “turn away fro sin
and be faithful to the Gospel.” Confessions will be held
every Wednesday in parishes throughout the
archdiocese.

to this workshop, which will be held on Saturday,
March 16, from 9am-12pm at the Archdiocesan Pastoral
Center (5001 Eastern Ave. in Hyattsville). The
workshop will explore the Catholic Biblical tradition
and the arrangement of the Lectionary. It will also
cover practical aspects for being an effective proclaimer
of the Word in a parish setting. To register,

weekly commitment? We need substitute catechists!!
When there is a class to cover we will email to check
availability, and provide a lesson plan for that day. If
you are able to help, please contact the Religious Ed

Available both online and in-parish, effectively teaches
the faith to adults so they can live it with greater confidence
and share it with others as part of the New Evangelization.
These five courses also provide the theological
content necessary for catechists to teach the faith to
others. Faith Foundations draws upon and correlates to
the current certification courses: Creed, Sacraments,
Christian Morality, Prayer and Scripture. Approximately
50 hours are needed to complete all five theological content

The archdiocesan Office of Young Adult Ministry is
hosting the 10th Annual 7 Church Walk on Saturday,
March 23. Come on pilgrimage without leaving the city!
Join young adults (20s and 30s) for the annual walk/
pilgrimage as we bring a Rome tradition to DC. The day
will begin with Mass at St. Patrick’s Church (619 10Th
Street, NW) at 9am and will conclude by 4pm at St.
Matthew's Cathedral. We will visit seven churches and
enter into different prayer experiences at each visit. Join
us and experience the fullness of the Church here in

Did you know that the Archdiocese of Washington
produces a weekly Sunday TV Mass filmed in the Crypt
Church of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the
Immaculate Conception? It is a wonderful ministry for
those members of our Catholic family who are unable to
be physically present with a local worshipping community
for the Sunday Eucharistic Liturgy. The Mass airs
every Sunday at 10:30 a.m. Mass. Check your local

Reflexión
Esta semana las lecturas nos sirven como introducción a la
próxima semana de la Pasión, ya que con una gran insistencia,
y desde hace tres domingos, se nos viene revelando el
retrato misericordioso de Dios Padre que se manifiesta de
manera
concreta a través de Cristo, el Hijo Amado que busca de
diversas maneras llegar a cada uno de nosotros, para hablarnos
al corazón, y renovar nuestra vida. Al respecto el Papa
Benedicto XVI nos dice: «…En la línea de lo que la liturgia
nos propuso el domingo pasado, la página evangélica de
hoy nos ayuda a comprender
que sólo el amor de Dios puede cambiar desde dentro la existencia
del hombre y, en consecuencia, de toda sociedad,
porque sólo su amor infinito lo libra del pecado, que es la
raíz de todo mal. Si es verdad que Dios es justicia, no hay
que olvidar que es, sobre todo, amor: si odia el pecado, es
porque ama infinitamente a toda
persona humana. Nos ama a cada uno de nosotros, y su fidelidad
es tan profunda que no se desanima ni siquiera ante
nuestro rechazo…» (Benedicto XVI, Homilía en la Parroquia
Romana de Santa Felicidad e hijos, Mártires, 25 de
marzo de 2007).
A estas alturas del tiempo de cuaresma se nos ha descubierto
nuestra condición pecadora, bien por transgredir la
ley, como el hijo menor, el hijo pródigo; bien por idolatrar
la ley, como el hijo mayor con sus grandes fidelidades, y se
nos ha puesto de manifiesto que a pesar de nuestra
condición pecadora el amor de Dios hacia nosotros, tal y
como somos, es fiel. Tal como el Padre
perdona a uno y a otro hijo, también Jesús perdona a la mujer
adúltera, y desvela las oscuras intenciones del corazón de
los escribas y fariseos, quienes encerrados en la ley y en el
cumplimiento querían lapidar a esta mujer. Ante este despiadado
legalismo se nos pone frente a la misericordia de
Jesús para con la mujer adúltera, misericordia que es signo
de contradicción para la inteligencia de los fariseos y escribas.
Ante las palabras: «...el que esté libre de pecado,
que tire la primera piedra...»,
Jesús nos lleva a interiorizar en nuestra propia conciencia,
en nuestra realidad profunda de pecadores que tantas veces
no aceptamos o no queremos ver. Nuestra incapacidad de
amor nos lleva a una perversión del corazón: por el orgullo,
la autosuficiencia, la confianza absoluta en unas normas y
tradiciones, que nos convierten en dioses, y nos llevan a
vivir juzgando, condenando y disponiendo de las vidas de
los demás, censurando y condenando, muchas veces, la actitud
misericordiosa y comprensiva del Padre y de Jesucristo.

CALLARSE PARA HABLAR MEJOR
Escucharse mutuamente es ante todo una necesidad
técnica. Porque, sin comunicación, no es posible el
diálogo. De un amigo, de un médico, de un sacerdote se
dice: ha sabido escucharme. Y de esta escucha ha brotado
en él (o en mi) la palabra que era necesaria. ¡Qué decepción
cuando el otro, al no escuchar de verdad, ha creido
comprender y todo seguido!
Para dialogar, hay que hablar el mismo lenguaje, utilizar
el mismo código. Por lo tanto, si quiero hablar con el
otro, primero tengo que escucharle para conocer su lenguaje,
su código.
Es evidente que hay que callarse para escuchar.
