UNIT 3: COMMUNICATION CONSIDERATIONS AND MODELS Communication models Communication models are used to explain and illustrate the way people exchange information. Simple Transaction Model The Simple Transaction Model is a representation of two-way communication between a sender and receiver. The sender originates the message and sends it to the receiver. The delivery methods may be face-to-face, telephone, or written message, such as email. The receiver interprets the message and provides feedback to the sender. UNIT 3: COMMUNICATION CONSIDERATIONS AND MODELS Interference Transaction Model The Interference model builds upon the simple transaction model by adding the concept of interference, both internal and external. External interference in communication is the surrounding noise and distraction that serve as obstacles to communication. Internal interference to communication may be a lack of concentration regarding the subject, physical or mental fatigue, or the inability to remain objective towards a topic. Figure 3.2 demonstrates the impact of interference between the sender and receiver. The sender encodes the message by determining structure and content, and then sends (transmission) the message to the receiver who interprets (decodes) the message before providing a response (feedback).
