COURSE OUTLINE
The following will be covered IN DEPTH throughout this course:

The student will:
• Learn and identify key terminology.
• Learn the properties of the hair and scalp
• Name and describe the structure of hair root, the 3
layers of the hair shaft and the 3 bonds in the
cortex.
• Learn the process of hair growth
• Discuss hair loss and treatments available
• Recognize hair and scalp disorders and which a
cosmetologist can service.
• Understand the PH scale and its importance to
cosmetology
• Know the benefits of various types of shampoo and
conditioners.
• Perform proper scalp manipulations as part of
shampoo service
• Demonstrate proper shampoo and conditioning
procedure.
Level 2 Level 2: Answer the questions at the end of each chapter
and give examples that apply to each of the questions.
Supplies: Text book, use of supplemental information to
reinforce understanding.
Level 3 Students will demonstrate an understanding of the
material through guided practice of the techniques,
illustration of procedures and interpretation of the chapter
material reviewed.
Level 4 Students will demonstrate synthesis of their
understanding of the procedures through actual classroom
demonstrations, unique problem solving and presentations
