There were twenty five women who had “other” significant complications.
Other significant complications 2010 included:
1. Five cases following urogynaecology which are discussed in the urogynaecology
section 12.7.
2. Six cases of post surgical ileus following major abdominal surgery.
3. Four cases of large haematoma.
4. One neuropraxia following prolonged procedure.
5. Suspected pulmonary embolus (not confirmed) following a laparoscopic case.
During 2010, the gynaecology clinical review panel (PQAA) met on six occasions and
reviewed 24 cases. Cases of unplanned return to theatre, visceral injury, excessive
blood loss, and unplanned admission to DCCM are referred for review. Clinicians
involved in the case are invited to the review and recommendations from the panel are
circulated to the department. Summaries from this PQAA activity are sent to the Sentinel
Events Review Panel.
