There were 18 (10%) peri-operative blood transfusions for benign hysterectomy in the<br />

service in <strong>2010</strong>. The rate was similar in each of vaginal, laparoscopic and abdominal<br />

hysterectomy. All of the transfusions in abdominal hysterectomy were in women having<br />

surgery for complex multi-fibroid disease. In two of the abdominal hysterectomy group, the<br />
