Councillor Morton, on behalf of the Duty Manager at the Batemans Bay Pool, asked if the
trees overshadowing the building could be lopped. He indicated that the primary source of
heating for the pool is solar and the trees are causing overshadowing. Leaves are also
blowing into the pool and causing drama with the pool pumps.
Councillor Morton also indicated that the Shade Cover over the Baby Pool had lost its UV
protection and could something be done. Further the pool was broken into recently and
repairs needed to be undertaken to the fence. He asked if these matters could be attended to.
The Deputy General Manager took the question on notice.

Council staff have programmed the pruning of the overshadowing trees through a local tree
removal company. This work was completed week ending Friday 27 October 2006.
The shading from the trees currently affect the solar heating from mid-afternoon to dusk,
whereas the primary heating time of solar for the pool is early morning to mid-afternoon.
Pruning of the trees may not reduce wind blown leaves from entering the pool.
The shade cover over the tiered seating was replaced during the closure of the Batemans Bay
Pool due to damage to the cover.
Assessment of the cover of the baby pool has indicated that it will be due for replacement in
the near future due to deterioration. However, in its current state, the cover still retains its
UV protection capacity.
Repairs to the barbed wire fence were completed week ending Friday 27 October 2006.
