RECOMMENDED
THAT under delegated authority dated 26 August 2003 (Minute No 422) the Committee
resolve the following:
THAT Council convene a workshop on the Bengello Forest to discuss the issues and options
related to Bengello Forest Report. This workshop would include:
1. the acknowledgement of the ecological importance of the Bengello Forest and the area’s
environmental attributes are considered in a strategic planning context;
2. support for the concept of securing the parts of Lots 70, 8, 7008 and 4 (as described in
attached map), under a formal conservation agreement and support further investigation
into the suitability of either a Voluntary Conservation Agreement or Property Vegetation
Plan to meet this objective;
3. preparation of a Plan of Management over the Bengello Forest area as a matter of priority
(portions presently under Council care and control);
4. request that the Department of Lands pursue a similar course of action for Lot 92
DP 631493;
5. development of a vegetation management plan for the airport vegetation management
activities ensuring grooming is undertaken as sensitively as possible and a functional
connection to the north and west is maintained;
6. review of the opportunities for the site as a biodiversity offset or biobanking.
