The onl<strong>in</strong>e bibliographic database ENTEC (ENergy TEChnology)<br />

predom<strong>in</strong>antly conta<strong>in</strong>s publications of <strong>the</strong> fi elds of energy research<br />

and energy technology. All citations have abstracts <strong>in</strong> German<br />

and/or English and a uniform classifi cation (<strong>in</strong>ternational energy<br />

classifi cation), as well as keywords <strong>in</strong> German and/or English.<br />

Focus is on German publications, but <strong>in</strong>ternational publications<br />

are cited as well. File data are from 1986 to <strong>the</strong> present; ENTEC<br />

<strong>in</strong>cludes more than 688.067 citations, is updated weekly; annual<br />

new acquisition of approximately 20 000 new documents. A fee<br />

is charged for access to <strong>the</strong> database. A free Demo database is<br />

available to get a quick overview.<br />

‘Fach<strong>in</strong>formationszentrum’ (FIZ) Karlsruhe and FIZ Technik<br />

Frankfurt/Ma<strong>in</strong> jo<strong>in</strong>tly produce ENTEC. FIZ Karlsruhe is a nonprofi<br />

t scientifi c service <strong>in</strong>stitution that produces and markets<br />

scientifi c and technical <strong>in</strong>formation services <strong>in</strong> pr<strong>in</strong>t and electronic<br />

form worldwide. In cooperation with national and <strong>in</strong>ternational<br />

<strong>in</strong>stitutions, FIZ Karlsruhe produces highly sophisticated<br />

databases <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> fi elds of energy, nuclear research and technology,<br />

crystallography, plastics, ma<strong>the</strong>matics, computer science and<br />

physics. <strong>Information</strong> is made available electronically through<br />

different distribution channels on <strong>the</strong> Internet, via proprietary<br />

networks or as specialized services <strong>in</strong> pr<strong>in</strong>ted form. FIZ Karlsruhe’s<br />

most important bus<strong>in</strong>ess area is <strong>the</strong> operation of STN International<br />

<strong>in</strong> Europe. STN International (The Scientifi c and Technical<br />

<strong>Information</strong> Network) is one of <strong>the</strong> world’s lead<strong>in</strong>g onl<strong>in</strong>e services<br />

offer<strong>in</strong>g access to bibliographic, factual and full-text databases <strong>in</strong><br />

science and technology.<br />

The ENTEC website also l<strong>in</strong>ks to <strong>the</strong> IEA <strong>Energy</strong> and IEA ETDEWEB<br />

databases. The IEA <strong>Energy</strong> website can also be accessed via STN<br />

on <strong>the</strong> Web and STN Easy.<br />
