SNEIL is a cooperation of the libraries of four institutes: the Danish Risø National Laboratory, the Norwegian Institute for Energy Technology, the Helsinki University of Technology (Finland) and the Swedish Royal Institute of Technology (KTH - Kungliga Tekniska Högskolan). Description of the information system The Nordic Energy Index contains descriptions of ongoing and completed energy research, development and demonstration projects in Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden. The listed projects have received grants from government programmes. The database contains over 12 000 project descriptions from 1982 to present. Project abstracts can be accessed via the search engine generating lists of projects. Each project is described in a one-page information sheet containing basic information such as project title, involved staff, contact details, project n°, duration, funding and abstract (in English or in one of the Scandinavian languages). Access to the system ✓ Free of charge Registered Subscription Payment per item Remarks The Nordic Energy Index website is simple but effective for obtaining access to Scandinavian energy RTD projects. It is a joint effort of scientifi c institutes in 4 Scandinavian countries to link information systems on energy RTD projects. A simple keyword search gives access to basic descriptions of over 12 000 ongoing and completed energy RTD projects that received grants from government programmes. The website links to international info systems (IEA Caddet, IEA ETDEWEB, EU CORDIS) and to national research info systems in the 4 Scandinavian countries.

It was set up as a programme fi nanced by the Nordic Governments in 1986 and became an institution under the Nordic Council of Ministers in 1999. The aim of Nordic Energy Research is to acquire new knowledge for the development and application of new energy solutions. The organisation has formulated the following priorities for its research: reduction of CO 2 emission to meet requirement in the Kyoto agreement; increase the share of renewable sources and carriers; an effective energy market which gives good framework conditions for the competition of business and industry; security of supply; energy effi ciency; systems analysis; and a closer co-operation with the adjacent areas (mainly the Baltic area and Russia). Description of the information system The Nordic Energy Research website contains information on general policies and current projects of the institute, structured by subject according to the following division: integration of the energy market, renewable energy sources, energy effi ciency, the hydrogen society and the effects of climate change on the energy sector. Of each subject a more thorough description of goals and a more precise description of research challenges are given. More detailed information on the separate projects and their results is given through (links to) separate, dedicated project websites.
