System description<br />

Context Enersearch AB is an <strong>in</strong>dustrial energy R&D consortium, founded <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> late 1990’s. Currently<br />

<strong>the</strong> consortium consists of <strong>the</strong> follow<strong>in</strong>g shareholders: ABB Automation Products, <strong>Energy</strong><br />

research Centre of <strong>the</strong> Ne<strong>the</strong>rlands (ECN), EDP - Electricidade de Portugal, Eneco,<br />

Iberdrola, IBM Utility Services, E.ON-Energie and Sydkraft. Enersearch is active <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> fi eld<br />

of utility bus<strong>in</strong>ess strategies.<br />

Description of <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>in</strong>formation system<br />

The <strong>in</strong>formation on <strong>the</strong> Enersearch website is structured accord<strong>in</strong>g to <strong>the</strong> three <strong>the</strong>mes <strong>in</strong><br />

which <strong>the</strong> consortium is active: ‘new distribution technologies’, ‘<strong>the</strong> power grid as a critical<br />

<strong>in</strong>frastructure’ and ‘<strong>in</strong>tensive <strong>in</strong>formation use <strong>in</strong> market and bus<strong>in</strong>ess’. In each of <strong>the</strong> three<br />

<strong>the</strong>mes, a number of projects are carried out, that are presented <strong>in</strong> detail by means of<br />

dedicated project websites. Current projects are:<br />

- Crisp: ‘Critical <strong>in</strong>frastructures for susta<strong>in</strong>able power’<br />

- ISPLC: ‘International symposium on power l<strong>in</strong>e communications and its applications’,<br />

event organised every two years (2001, 2003, 2005);<br />

- IT <strong>in</strong> energy: study on <strong>the</strong> role of <strong>in</strong>formation technology <strong>in</strong> improv<strong>in</strong>g effi ciency <strong>in</strong> future<br />

energy systems;<br />

- CRIS: <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>ternational <strong>in</strong>stitute for critical <strong>in</strong>frastructures;<br />

- On-to-knowledge: ‘Content-driven Knowledge-Management through Evolv<strong>in</strong>g<br />

Ontologies’;<br />

- BUSMOD: ‘Bus<strong>in</strong>ess models <strong>in</strong> a world characterised by distributed generation’; and<br />

- PALAS: PowerL<strong>in</strong>e as an Alternative Local Access’.<br />
